It's great that some people don't mind a tiny space, I just wish it wouldn't screw up the curve for what generally would be considered a "normal" sized room or apartment for the rest of us who value space, regardless of how much time is spent there.

Once that gets accepted, then that's the new floor and prices get adjusted accordingly. Now the rest of us are paying extra for things that used to be standard.

Getting off topic, and I apologize for that. Just not a fan of "tiny" anything.
Tiny hotel rooms, micro apartments, etc, etc...
I don't think there will be a trend of downsizing rooms. I just think hotels like these add another option to the market for travelers like me who want a less expensive option when we dont need much room.

Yeah, there's no slippery slope here. There will continue to be a wide array of different sizes of hotel product out in the world -- and thankfully for those of us who like room to move, all-suite hotels aren't going anywhere, either.

The paying extra for things that used to be standard is clearly a symptom of later-stage market capitalism -- everything is a revenue stream, and if you're in an industry where the main price tag of the main thing (hotel room, airline ticket, etc) has little room to increase YOY, you gotta find incremental revenue somewhere else (baggage fees, resort fees).

I recently stayed at the Yotel in the Seaport district of Boston and it has a similar small room modeled after a first class ship cabin. It's really nice for what it is. I expect this place to be very popular.

I like a bed, bath, killer location (helps reduce env impact as well as cost) so I'm a fan of where this is going.

This looks like a typical no-frills Japanese business travel hotel, for example, https://www.princehotels.com/shinagawa-east-tower/

I forgot to mention this, but there had been a 24-story hotel planned for this site in the mid 80s that was likely meant as a companion to the One American Center. It was proposed by Rust Properties, which also developed the One American Center. This FAA permit from 1984 lists as being a 24-story 240 foot building.

So, it's possible we may see something similar to that height here again.

The number of building permits being filed each day hasn't dropped significantly based on my anecdotal observations, and the site plans for large projects are still being updated. That all makes sense because of the lengthy approval process. The one thing that will be affected IMO are groundbreakings depending on how long this goes on and how bad the recession gets. But we weren't going to have many large projects break ground this year any way based on where they are at in the permitting process.

is the city still actively reviewing submissions? To be honest, I don't know if city gov's on furlough, too, or not.

They are - probably because they can work from home. It's the steps like AULCC, DC, PC and HLC meetings that are probably not happening yet.

The ABJ has an article. No mention of CitizenM, and the developers say a brand hasn't signed on yet.

I removed CitizenM from the name in the thread title because there doesn't seem to be a brand associated with this one any more. The height looks to be ~204' with 16 floors based on the elevations. There are 332 rooms. I don't expect this one to be starting any time soon.

This was posted to the AULCC page last week. There doesn't seem to be any change to the height.

Renderings are out. There are a lot more of street level and inside at the link below.

It's hideous. But it's density.

Not bad. I do like that second floor lobby space, and the lack of above-ground parking.

It has some of the markings and colors of a Virgin Hotel. Other than that, its a standard box, agree it adds density, but its a handsome box regardless.

That lot is a tough one -- lots of weird limitations. So it's good to see something there with some height, instead of a teensy parking lot.

I really don't mind it. Standard international filler on a postage-stamp parking lot. Bland but inoffensive. Great street interaction. I think we knew this wasn't going to be anything expensive or adventurous given the hotel brand.

The cladding is steel, no? If so - and that's not poverty siding - this could be pretty handsome.
