8 Octavia in Hayes Valley Releases Floor Plans, Renderings

While we've already given you a sneak peek of the renderings of 8 Octavia, now it's time for the money shot: the floor plans. In case you need to be caught up to speed, 8 Octavia is designed by San Francisco starchitect Stanley Saitowitz and developed by DDG and DM Development. It's topped out, which means that the 47 units over ground-floor retail will be ready for their close-up very soon. There are one and two bedroom condos and two and three bedroom penthouses, some of which are two levels. Building and unit highlights are aplenty, including landscapes by Marta Fry Landscape Associates, kitchens by SieMatic, FSC-certified wide-plank oak flooring, roof decks, and more. Pricing hasn't been set, but if the rest of new construction is any indiction, these units will fetch more than $1,000 per square foot.

The schemes most pronounced feature is a large translucent membrane that stretches between the sports and culture centre arena, and the four characteristic end walls of the neighbouring public housing scheme. The building ́s structure is composed of steel and timber covered with opalescent polycarbonate panels with a low U-value. This translucent cover offers excellent daylight conditions and at night the structure appears as a glowing crystal. The building will be used for a variety of daily sport and cultural activities such as concerts and theatre performances. The dynamic landscape inside allows for various activities to take place on different levels in visual contact with each other.

At 38 and 36 storeys respectively, Maysan Towers provide a vivid addition to the evolving urban context, which makes up the masterplan framework and ambitious sustainable agenda of the capital city of the UAE.

the puig headquarters tower by rafael moneo cuts the sky in barcelona

the corporate headquarters is one of the last high rise buildings at the ‘l’hospitalet de barcelona europa square’ area where projects by toyo ito, jean nouvel and aranda, vilalta & pigem are also featured. the angled skyscraper consists of a solid block of dark glass wrapped by an infinite sequence of white panels that rise across its entire façade. the images depict the volume ascending up to an elegant singular top that stands out against the blue sky.

aro ha wellness retreat overlooks new zealand landscape

located on new zealand’s south island, ‘aro hā‘ is a purpose built, self-sufficient retreat offering its guests access to yoga, hiking, strength training, meditation, therapeutic massage and detoxifying vegetarian cuisine. designed by local practice tennent + brown architects, the timber dwelling provides accommodation for only 32 guests at any one time, encouraging group interaction. providing views across the 21 acre site, an open terrace is oriented to face lake wakatipu.

david chipperfield has won the bid to build the ‘nobel center’ along stockholm’s central waterfront, beating out a slew of other international firms for the project. the headquarters will invite people into the noble prize’s world of natural sciences, humanities and peace efforts, becoming a meeting place for curiosity and creativity.

The people of Kalmar have long dreamt of a suitable stage on which their passion could be played out. The need for a new stadium became apparent when the Kalmar Football Club was forced to borrow a competing team’s home stadium to host international games. The team had out-grown its stadium. The project for a new stadium thus began to take shape.

architects von gerkan, marg and partners (GMP) has constructed a basketball stadium in the southern chinese city of dongguan. the site of the complex is visible from the rounded base it rests on and provides a visual landmark in the growing district of liabo. surrounded by extensive parkland which mimics the shape of the volume, extensive green areas and curved pathways along water features are positioned around the stadium for recreational and leisure activities.

after four years of construction, the ‘house of music’ has opened its doors to the public in aalborg, denmark. developed by viennese architectural studio coop himmelb(l)au, the cultural center is both a school and a concert venue, designed to promote the exchange of ideas and information among students, teachers and artists.
