83 Sunday
85 Weekday, Saturday & Sunday

Route Changes
11 Kildonan - revised routing via Rothesay
41 Henderson Express - new service on Raleigh, Headmaster and Rothesay via North Kildonan
85 - revised route and service hours will provide new service to Kildonan Place through River East, All Season, and Valley Gardens.

On-line schedules available: Monday, June 11, 2007
Timetable home delivery: Thursday, June 14, 2007

Timetables available June 11 at City of Winnipeg Libraries and Transit Service Centres.
Call the Transit InfoLine: 986-5700 for more information.

I'm expecting more details to be available on Monday. But it looks like major routing changes are coming to North Kildonan this time arround. Last time they made their spring update they posted new route maps early. [I wonder... will Winnipeg Transit extend the 41 Henderson Express back upto the north side of the North Perimeter Highway as originally planned in the Fall of '06?]

super express doesn't stop at all in a tract, while express buses stop at selected points.

The concept for the SuperExpress came from research I did before the Direction to the Future report was published.
  • Is designed to serve the outer suburbs to downtown customer
  • Does not stop at the inner suburbs at all
  • Stops at all downtown stops, as well as major ones in the central city

The 61 SuperExpress is the best example of the concept, although my proposal to Bill Menzies in 1999 was for service along Portage Ave. (using the 22 Assiniboia Express).

WT has introduced new SuperExpress routes since the original, but the concept has been so watered down, that the newer routes aren't really "Super" anymore.

Many if not all Super routes end (or begin) at the U of M. The concept I had envisaged would have the 22 go to a new Transit Terminal in Assiniboia (NOT "Unicity Mall", but closer east of it, where

The original concept was meant to demonstrate that speed improvements into public transit would attract riders, and that it would lead to a demand for rapid transit. That it did, and much more.

Now it's time to convert some of those routes to rail rapid transit.

so, do you mean that you are the creator of the superexpress concept?

Yes, I was Chair of a transit advocacy group from Novembe '97 till June '99 -- Citizens for Better Public Transit in Winnipeg (CBPTW).

The concept was borrowed from NYC's bus "layers":
  • Local - stops every stop
  • Limited Stop - Winnipeg's 'green' and 'red' Express routes
  • Express - SuperExpress

The 77 Crosstown North is about 90 minutes in duration, from Polo Park to K.P.

No one in their right mind would take that whole trip though, although I have heard of a couple of co-workers who have.

However, back in the 50s, the longest route was the Grant:

Winnipeg Tribune - November 1, 1955 - Longest route in the city

If you stay on our 1 Mainline, from Water Terminal and back, then to Fort William terminal, then Westfort, then to Fort William again then back to Water terminal after that, it takes 4 hours, but it goes to downtown. I've never done that, but I took the crosstown from PA to FW once and that's about 90 minutes too, but it stops at the university, and almost everyone gets off there.

Considering Winnipeg's size, a 90 minute route doesn't sound too bad.
