4B money could initiate LV Town Center
Looks like Leon Valley might be next to make an announcement.

After months of meetings and deliberation, the Leon Valley City Council announced its 4B economic development board at the end of its May 5 meeting.
The board includes residents Nancy Marin, Mike McCarley, Abraham Diaz, Claude Guerra, Mike Davis and Alberto Milmo and non-resident Georgia Zannaras, Ph.D., who serves on the Alamo Area Council of Governments.
The board will assist the council in deciding how to distribute the 4B monies, which should begin to be disbursed in June.
Economic Development Director Rose Ryan said the city is looking at a project-by-project redevelopment for the Town Center at the intersection of Bandera and Poss Road, beautification along Bandera Road and a mixed-use development, which is in the discussion stages.
“There are a few similar projects along 1604( ), at the Quarry and in Austin,” said Ryan.
“They are sweeping the country with a new urbanism architectural movement and the desire for walkable communities,” she said.
Marin, who is actively involved in city government by chairing the Citizens Neighborhood Progress Committee, said her work on the committee showed her had lost revenue due to several factors.
“When Albertson’s closed, that was the beginning of a loss of revenue,” she said, and the city’s economic development “really got me passionate.”
Marin noted that the committee would not just make decisions and act on them, but that they would work with both the public and the city council to ensure that everyone’s needs are met.
“It’ll take a consensus,” she said. “It won’t just be the board making a decision. We’ll have two public hearings and the City Council decision.” Marin added, “It is figuratively and literally an opportunity to build a community.”
