really has nothing to do with saskatoon, but nipawin and humboldt extra foods have now announced No frills conversion.

September for nipawin
November for Humboldt.

Taylor st. here should be done in a month maybe more.

Sobeys lawson heights construction is going strong too.

I think they may be open as I saw a truck in drive thru lane. Also saw a sign for Mongolian Pot right across from Fatburger. Seems like an unlikely location for a concentration of restaurants, but glad to see some variety being added to "food scene".

New Faces: Olympia Restaurant owner has the simple recipe for success

by John Grainger, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
July 8, 2017

It didn’t take long for Syed Ejaz Shah to realize his choice of location to build and start a restaurant was going to be a good decision.

“Once we got in here, we knew this was it,” says Shah, who opened his doors to his Olympia Mediterranean Restaurant just two weeks ago.

His location could be considered a primo location in downtown — just a few steps off the corner of 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue.

“So far, I am very happy. We’ve had a great response.”

On opening night, Saskatoon’s Mayor Charlie Clark, MP Kevin Waugh and other local dignitaries were on hand for the unveiling of the new downtown eatery.

More unique, surprising places and spaces like this, please.

Yes! this is such a great, well done addition to the city. I wish I lived closer to it, so I could make it there regularly.

'If you build it, they will come': Retail development boom good now, could falter later

by Matthew Olson, Saskatoon Star Phoenix
July 24, 2017

The retail industry is thriving in Saskatchewan, but an Edwards School of Business professor cautions that the good times might not last.

According to Statistics Canada, retail sales in Saskatchewan have grown by more than 65 per cent from 2006 to 2016. That’s the highest growth rate of any province or territory in the country.

So I've read online that the planned grocery store for Lawson Heights will in fact stay a Safeway, instead of flipping to a Sobeys as speculated.

I'm not even sure what the point is in having two different banners anymore. I was in a new Safeway Extra store while vacationing in BC, and it looked nearly identical to the Sobeys on Preston South.

Popeye's is now open in Kensington. Drove by about an hour ago and it looked not to busy.

Also saw a sign at 22nd and Ave M for a second Taco Bell location. Ground has been broke already.
