Honestly both these new stores will be successful with the 13 year old girl demographic and as mentioned I'm sure they're getting a sweetheart long term lease but still baffling to understand the Cornwall's long game letting so many tenants walk. Who do they think they are going to attract? I can think of very few possibilities in today's retail climate. And no offense to the the owners of the legging store, but once the balance shifts to more one-off stores like that, it's kind of a death knell for malls right?

Northgate Mall is losing four stores including Lowe’s on Feb. 14, Things Engraved, La Senza on Jan. 25 and Gifts Etc. by the end of February.

Southland Mall closed Motherhood Maternity in December and is also losing Things Engraved. Stellar Gear is closing on Jan. 24 and Escents is closing this month.

Calendar Club in the Cornwall is closing at the end of this week as well.

That mall is barren.

Calendar Club is a seasonal popup though.
Really it's not going to stick around.

Oh for sure, but it just reinforces the bleakness of the entire upper section of the Cornwall.

I think you guys mostly had named these new stores for Cornwall already. What is Eclipse?

The mall has announced three new stores coming to the shopping centre this Spring, including Urban Planet in the upper portion of the old Sears location, Eclipse near the Source and Gong Cha Bubble Tea near Laura Secord. Ardene will also be moving to part of the lower Sears spot in the Spring.

They're all over Canada but appear to be a secondary market type retailer. Looks to be taking the old Roots space so at least that should mean a proper renovation. Certainly better than empty, but the vibe is definitely trending downwards.

That means it is approximately 60,000 sq ft per floor. I peaked through a gap in the paper covering the former Sears entrance where the two pedways (Delta Regina and casino) meet. They have the lighting in place and the space looks huge. My guess is that it will probably be Winners or Marshalls combined with Homesense. I could be wrong, but 45,000 sq ft is huge. Also in my research, for comparison sake, I found that the average Sobey's store is 30,000 sq ft.
Looks like I was right. The new second floor Urban Planet will be 15x larger than its existing Albert Street location and Ardene will have a 7x larger space on the main floor than its current second floor location.

That's another empty spot for Southland. Really, card stores did themselves in. $10 for a single card? That's nutty!

What else is struggling? Bed Bath & Beyond has been closing lots of stores but no indication the local store is going. Pier 1 is in trouble; is their store on Prince of Wales still open?

Bench announced today they are closing brick & mortar in Canada; do they still have a store in Cornwall or is it gone?

I'm sorry but this isn't surprising in the least. The number of people who send cards anymore has significantly fallen in the last decade and if you do need to send a card you can find one at any local grocery store, dollar store, Walmart etc. This was a dying business which was never going to survive imho.

Bench is right next to Sephora at the Cornwall Centre. Would be good for Sephora to expand their Regina store.

Store closings like this are happening all over the place. Mostly things that are antiquated as was mentioned. I don't need to go to Carlton Cards and pay $10 for a piece of paper.

Lush was only signed as a seasonal pop up in Cornwall this year. Rumor is they are looking for space either at Southland or Harbour Landing
