Regina has a transit system? Is it bigger and better than ToonTown's or Brandon's?

I heard a long time ago that even Regina had streetcars. Is that true?

Regina's transit system is need of a large overhaul and charges too much for monthly passes. The city needs to move to a hub system and lower the monthly pass considerably.

There is a move from those with car(s) to reduce the transit system and have mostly small buses(24 riders). This is because of the lack of ridership. However, this is a short sighted analysis and will cause more issues as the city grows. Lower the pass rates , and increase single rider fares, to encourage more transit users. A good transit system is best for all concerned, especially if you wish to grow the city and its economy.

No amalgamations here but Pat Fiacco is every bit as hollow on policy and full of populism and boosterism as Mel Lastman. It is only a matter of time until our dear Mayor makes a "Who's this WHO ?" , comment.

lol you're kidding, right? I'm quite confident that our system is larger than Brandon's. And yes, we once had a streetcar system

It isn't bad for routes though they get confusing sometimes for the average rider, lots of overlap and the timing leaves something to be desired.A hub system would best and more efficient.

I agree with you Quimby. Considering what I pay for parking and gas every month, I'd only end up saving close to $20 if I rode the bus. Sure $20 would be nice in the pocket at the end of the month but I'm more concerned with the hassle of having to get up extra early in the morning and getting home later than usual at the end of the day. A normal 8 hour day with your own vehicle can easily turn into a 10 hour day on a bus and that's something I don't get to excited about.

Regina Transit is a very inconvenient system. With long slow winding routes through the city, it takes more than 45 minutes to get anywhere. And the frequency is terrible. If you miss one bus you have too wait another half an hour for another. I think the city should use more exress type routes, getting you from the suburbs to the city centre in 15 minutes or less. Right now, you can get anywhere in regina in 15-20minutes in a car. At least with express routes, it would get you to downtown in the same amount of timeas a car.

I completely agree with Qiumby. Regina's transit does need a complete overhaul. Regina needs more efficient routes. Direct instead of winding through the city.

Both.

A hub system would have four to six hubs, where the larger capacity buses run from hub to hub every 10-15 min. Then smaller capacity buses run the shorter winding routes from the hubs and add in some park and ride, preferably parking garage style.

I like,

NW hub-Sherwood Village or Normanview

SE hub- Vic Square

North Hub-Northgate mall

South Hub- Southland Mall

Central Hub- Vic Park/Cornwall

Special Hub- U of R and SIAST

Then the Feeder routes run off of these or one can park and ride. This could also be beneficial to each hub with increased economic activity to malls that will continue to be pinched by big box development. It might be wise to make a bus, bikes and cabs only loop on 11th and 12th from Lorne to Hamilton and pedestrianize Cornwall. I would also pedestrianize Scarth to Vic.

Yes, that sounds like a reasonable plan to me, I would think a bus loop hub (see: Polo Park) could make things easier. You get off your feeder bus and onto a major line bus and off you go.

Very similar to hub plans, some routes, due to low ridership, would work best on a call out basis could double as paratransit, if designed properly. Better service with less cost.

We need a grid bus system. Something where the lines just run on the major roads of the city, and there would be some routes that would travel cross town.
