Was walking down State yesterday morning and had to stop to snap a picture, but it didn't fully capture just how much the light was glimmering off the glass and white fin detailing. What a beautiful building!

Wow..That crown looks amazing with the vertical silver panels. Turning out better than the renderings.

I am so happy with how this one turned out! I wonder what might happen to the lot behind it now. They'd have to go bigger to get good views, right?

I wouldn't worry much about that for 2 reasons.

1. Essex tower is super thin and doesn't have any tall neighbors so a tower directly behind it would still have views (of the lake/park I assume you're talking about) from the North and South facing sides

2. Any tower built on that lot would likely be built on a podium behind the renovated Essex Hotel abutting 8th street so that East facing units above about the 15th floor would have a direct view of the lake/park

I don't think I was expecting this building to be this green at first...I actually expected it to be rather underwhelming...but the green is really gorgeous and it stands out in a great way much more than I thought it would.

Looks awesome in person. Some of the top glass is in now and has some of the same inset details as the two lower floors does. Looks very nice up close. What a great addition to the Michigan Ave skyline photo.

^ Agreed. Pictures really don't do it justice (even though its still quite a photogenic building). I was ogling Essex for much of Lollapalooza weekend, lol

It's a long shot project, but I think Jahn's light, curved tower would look great here and would also cover the southern mostly blank wall of that brown brick building. I know people liked the first design with the cantilevered, inverted stacks, but that feels played out to me at this point. South Loop is more about playfulness, curves.

I still prefer the original design, however I'm quite impressed with how this looks in the skyline. Especially the color!

It's true, I feel like Chicago has a variety to the colors and textures of its buildings, whether intentional or not, that should be the envy of other major cities.

I'm glad this building went up too because I feel like this (along with NEMA) serves as a precedent for taller buildings on the lower part of Michigan along the park. Perhaps 5 years ago a developer would've been more hesitant to build a 1000M or a Park Michigan Tower. After all nobody wants to be the first, because of the presumed risk. However, now that it's been done and proven, we're full steam ahead.

NOW IF THEY WOULD JUST COVER THE DAMN TRAIN TRACKS

I've had the same thought. The gentle tapering of the current design could end up looking really slick and sophisticated if all of the tucking and pinching on the N & S elevations is executed well.

As for Essex, I still wish they would have gone with a blue/silver tone with high reflectivity in overcast conditions a la Legacy and 401 N Wabash, but it's still looking nice as it is now.
