general electric building

500 fifth avenue

williamsburg bank building

etc

worst

everything built in DT brooklyn in the last 10 years

anything with weird observation decks jutting out at 1200 feet
432 park (the big stick)
anything completely rectangular
madison sq garden
johnson's AT&T building
that stubby POS on roosevelt island that obscures the view of the Queensborough bridge

His building near the Brooklyn Bridge being the one exception. Gehrys buildings look like they were assembled by a board three year old! And I know I’m gonna get a lot of flack for this but I actually like 432!

DC, it helps when you post a list of buildings to name the one building pictured

This thread illustrates clearly how subjective architecture is because I consider First Canadian Place if not the worst building in Toronto, it's close, as it's devoid of any features, imagination, or ornamentation. I guess if minimalism is your thing you might like it but I sure don't. Scotia Plaza (almost as boring) is comparatively, an architectural masterpiece since they at least added something to it to try and make it palatable. Grand Harbour on the other hand has that cool bridge section between buildings which alone gives it a thumbs up. As the two tallest buildings in Toronto are your favorite, it seems that height alone is your criteria

As for Victoria's nicest building (we don't have skyscrapers here), I consider Shoal Point the nicest but many consider Sussex Place the best:

It's not until you get up close to see all the little architectural details and features that went into Shoal Point that you really appreciate it but it also explains why many of Victoria's priciest condo's are inside the building:

Sussex Place:

I have no idea which is the worst as Victoria is filled with featureless residential high-rises, any of which could qualify

One of the best for sure. It also seems to stand out more as time goes and more glass towers are built up around it.

First Canadian Place is too boxy and bland for me. The only thing going for it is that it remains as Canada's tallest skyscraper. For me, the most beautiful skyscraper in TO is the Scotia Plaza. Love its colour and how its shape changes depending on which side/angle you are looking from.

Among its older buildings, I love the Bank of Commerce building which is right across Scotia Plaza.

Its observation deck is decorated with huge art deco faces and offers a great view of downtown.

Are these just north of the 401? I think I've driven around these, on my way to a Persian restaurant.

Here in Winnipeg, where I currently live, I think the best skyscrapers are the older ones within the Exchange District. And my most favourite is the Union Bank Tower now Paterson Global Food Institute

Among the new ones, I would say the new True North Square takes the title

This will be replaced soon though. So since it will be gone, I think the worst would be the Fort Garry Place.

It even has faux Grecian/Roman sculptures!!!! Eeek!

For Philadelphia, I'll give one vintage and one modern highrise that I love and one that I hate:

LOVE

Vintage: 1616 Walnut. We don't have a ton of Art Deco highrises when put up against comparable cities but the ones that exist are nice.

Graboyes

Modern: Three Logan Square. I will never not love this building.

Brandywine Realty Trust

HATE

Symphony House.

Just...look at it.

Symphony House is hideous. Looks like 3 different buildings were pieced together.

Denver, CO:

Best: 1999 Broadway. Though it's neither the tallest nor most distinctive landmark on the Denver skyline, 1999 Broadway is, in my opinion, the most unique and architecturally interesting. It was built around (and on top of) an old and historic church, the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, so it looks almost like the two buildings are connected.

Worst: Brooks Tower. Sorry, is this Denver or the Bronx?

Personally, I would slide this into the "Best" category.

How far from completion is Premier Tower on Spencer Street?

Heritage Center in Houston...

I kinda love its wacky postmodern Mayanism.

But it is pretty awful.
