The heat

It's hotter today in Miami, MB than it is in Miami, FL. THAT AIN'T RIGHT!

Meanwhile, here in Calgary it continues to swelter, this is not a normal summer! Anyone else fed up with the heat?

it looks like Regina is the hottest city in the country right now. 35C, 45 with the humidity. Earlier in the day, they were saying just under 50 with the humidity! They're forcasting the same temperature for tomorrow

I prefer 22-26 Celcius, this is too damn hot

I just got back from Cuba and was hoping for some "cool" weather when I got home.

It's hot here - but the humidity here just doesn't compare to the Caribbean. Low 30's C in Cuba felt noticeably warmer compared to a similar temperature here.

I can't stand it. This is the first day of the heat way (Went up to 30, with a humidex of 40) and I'm already tired. I can't wait for autumn! It's beautiful, crisp, and refreshing!

Good to see the prairies hot and dry! The crops should be growing like weeds!

Side note, down here in the middle of winter has been down right pleasant. Highs around 18-20 degrees and a fair bit of rain.

Hot weather baking crops, farmers say
Last Updated: Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | 9:11 AM CT
CBC News

Farmers say they're starting to see the hot weather of the past week take a toll on their fields.

With the mercury in some areas peaking at 40 C, it's baking crops.

For example, two weeks ago, the Danychuk family, who farm near Biggar, Sask., had high-hopes for their crops, but a stretch of hot weather changed that.

"We are still looking at a good crop. But it's not going to be the bin-buster we were hoping for," said Rob Danychuk.

According to the provincial government, the heat is moving crop development forward, but there are now some early signs of drought and heat damage.

"Topsoil moisture conditions are going down in the province, pasture conditions are deteriorating," said Agriculture Department spokeswomen Terry Bedard.

Concern is highest in the dry southwest. Moving north though, many crops are holding up well, Bedard said.

"Generally, we are still seeing most of our crops, 50 per cent or more, in good to excellent condition."

Still, Bedard said, if it's too hot for too long, there's a danger that crops will ripen too quickly.

That could mean lower yields, resulting in less money for Saskatchewan farmers.

It's not exactly dry...it's been quite humid, in fact.

I guess Terminal M will once again go unused this autumn.

It's from the days of United Grain Growers! Which was bought by Agricore United which was bought by Sask Pool! How times change!

BTW, I don't know where it was, but I posted about JRI's pink terminal - the marine tower was recently whitewashed. The end of an era. Still, it's one of the largest elevators in the world on an inclined elevation.

The pink one is JRI. At some point between April and October 2006, they painted the pink tower white. It used to be all pink.

It just wouldn't be Saskatchewan if the farmers weren't complaining about something. First it was too wet now it's too dry? Tomorrow too cloudy?
