They've ventured out all over the city to end skyscrapers everywhere, but they have left their home front un-protected. Serves them right, now they get a big 800 footer to wake up to in the morning.

They're too busy fighting Trump to focus on anything else. He's the big fish. A victory against him would last them a lifetime. Meanwhile, this much taller tower forms in the background.

NIMBYs working to our advantage. They won't win against Trump, but even so I'd rather see Herzog & De Meuron's 800 footer go up here than Trump's typical banality.

These are the same developers who were with the remy project , any chance that they will just go this far in construction and not build it like the remy?

There's always a chance for anything.

Someone on wirednewyork.com said that sales for this building will begin this summer, which means that we'll probably see renderings surface in a couple of months

So this is a very complicated constuction site. All the buildings are down and the site is now the entire block from Church to West Broadway

The structure thats under construction is not 56 Leonard but (NY Law?) on Worth. But the construction entrance to that building cuts the 56 leonard site in half and goes to Leonard instead of worth.

56 leonard is still being dug out

I wish they would give an indication on what it'll look like. I'm glad to see though that the site is booming.

Now that Gehry's out of the way, I guess this will have to do as most anticipated rendering.

Swiss Firm to Design New TriBeCa Tower

Swiss Firm to Design New TriBeCa Tower

By ROBIN POGREBIN; Compiled by Julie Bloom

The Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron has been enlisted to design a new residential tower in TriBeCa that will incorporate a monumental public sculpture at ground level by the artist Anish Kapoor, the project’s developer said. The real estate company Alexico Group, which also developed the Mark Hotel, said a design would be released in the fall. The tower is to rise at the intersection of Leonard and Church Streets, and the sculpture will be fully integrated into the architecture. Mr. Kapoor, who was born in India and lives in London, is known for vast public sculptures like “Sky Mirror,” a convex stainless steel reflecting sculpture that was installed at Rockefeller Center two years ago. Herzog & de Meuron’s many projects include the new national stadium for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the Tate Modern museum complex in a former power station at Bankside in London, and an expansion of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

Sounds very interesting...from the earlier curbed.com quote:

Quote:
Our source says Kondylis is off the project, and the new architects are, drumroll, Herzog and de Meuron.

So what are they up to? Oh, just a skyscraper made up of stacked glass cubes. There will be only two units per floor, and Corcoran Sunshine will market the project. Louise Sunshine, who put the Sunshine in Corcoran Sunshine, now works as the development director for Alexico, so there's the connection. Alexico is also developing the Remy in Chelsea, which also happens to be made of stacked glass cubes in a design by—wouldn't you know it—Costas Kondylis. But our source has seen the model for 56 Leonard Street, and it bares only "a very small likeness" to the Remy, and "looks nothing like" Santiago Calatrava's glass boxes at 80 South Street. Oh, did we mention this tower is going up completely as-of-right? Brace yourself, Tribeca, because the Swiss are coming.
