As long as it has a dedicated lane, I don't care if it's actually on a rail or not. This won't be quite as efficient as rail, because it does share some street space with cars. That means accidents and traffic will get in its way, which doesn't happen with rail. So I guess this is better than nothing, but not as good as having a truly dedicated lane.

Agree, I think trackless & driverless technologies are really cool, but it definitely has to has a dedicated lane to rival rail.

My thoughts exactly

It may also mean busways, though, like the Orange line in LA. This could go on the ROW of the Union Pacific spur that goes out to the Rim, for example.

With a total of 23 destinations now available, we are the largest carrier at SAT in terms of cities served.”

Frontier flies one the youngest fleets in the industry consisting of nearly 80 Airbus A320 Family of jet aircraft. With nearly 200 more new aircraft on order, Frontier will continue to grow and modernize its fleet to deliver on the mission to provide affordable travel across America. By 2026, the company will be in a position to deliver Low Fares Done Right to more than 50 million passengers a year. Here's an application for a new control tower at Stinson Municipal Airport. Have they started on this? This includes the elevations, and says the tower will have "fins" that are lit at night with colored LEDs.

Yes. Went down the road on that side of the runway a while back, and they were clearing that area.

Stinson: I love it. It pays homage to the original but it's on the other side of the runway so you can see it from the terminal.

In Addition to New Destinations, Frontier Airlines is Dedicating a Plane to SAT

New Flights and New Plane at San Antonio International Airport

From the City of San Antonio's Aviation Department

SAN ANTONIO (June 5, 2018) – Frontier Airlines, an ultra-low-cost carrier, announced today its plans to offer more new service to attract both leisure and business travelers. The new non-stop routes will fly from San Antonio International Airport (SAT) to Orange County, California (SNA) and Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) and will offer access to some of the country’s top tourist attractions, including Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm in California and top-rated parks and outdoor recreation in Utah. Business travelers will also enjoy SNA as a great alternative to LAX and the LA basin area.

“The greater San Antonio and Central Texas communities continue to respond well to our Low Fares Done Right philosophy,” said Daniel Shurz, Sr. Vice President of Commercial for Frontier Airlines. “We are proud to continue our commitment and show our pride in serving this community by dedicating a plane to San Antonio. With a total of 25 destinations now available, we are the largest carrier at San Antonio in terms of cities served.”

In addition to offering special rates for the new destinations, to celebrate Frontier’s growing commitment to SAT, the airline will dedicate one of its brand new Airbus A320 aircraft to the city and allow residents to pick and name the animal that will go on one of Frontier’s famous animal-themed tails. San Antonio residents will be asked to vote for their top five animals in the first round of the promotional contest, and in the second round residents will choose their favorite name for the animal.

In each round of the contest, participants will be randomly chosen to win prizes, including vouchers and 25 round-trip tickets – a total of 50 round-trip tickets in all – to any of Frontier’s non-stop destinations from San Antonio. To participate in the promotional contest, go to “SAT Plane Tail” by clicking here http://bit.ly/SATplanetail.

“Today’s news shows that Frontier is committed to this market and that they are here to stay. Getting passengers involved in its latest promotion signifies a true community partnership,” said Russ Handy, Aviation Director for the City of San Antonio.

Special introductory rates will be offered for a limited time starting at $29.

Just last month, Frontier announced plans to service new routes to Albuquerque, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, Jacksonville, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Omaha and Tulsa.

Service to Orange County begins on August 13 while service to Salt Lake City begins on August 15. For more information on the contest and special rates visit www.FlyFrontier.com.

Today’s announcement brings the total number of non-stop destinations served from San Antonio International Airport to 54, with 25 of those destinations served by Frontier Airlines.

Very nice Frontier but we already have NS to Salt Lake City with southwest and delta. I like to see NS to Boston and Portland among other.

With this announcement and the 22 months of rock steady growth how long will it be until we're gonna need to add more gates.

Does anybody know why the plan shows that they would build most of Terminal C but not all of it?

Kind of off topic, but sometimes i look at the stuff here and can't believe it's been 10 years...

But yeah, I think it has to do with traffic maybe?

I have to imagine the mayors task force is figuring this out. By my count, looks as though an additional 33 - 36 gates could be added on to the current airport with its 24 gates (including Concourse A's 2 additional south gates) bringing the total to around 58 - 60. Obviously not all at once. But if they are able to lengthen a runway to accept wide-bodies, the airport could handle traffic increases long into the future!

It seems like the cost-effective thing would be to build the whole thing at once. Otherwise you'd have a whole mess of stuff to deal with when it came time to expand it a few years later, not to mention the inconvenience to travelers waiting for their plane in a messy, noisy, under-construction terminal.
