I'm real excited to see what the facade really looks like.

i don't recall if this was mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but i saw a sign on site yesterday (on the broad street side closer to lombard than to pine) which read "future home of suzanne roberts theatre" -- so interestingly, as comcast center approaches street level, its founder's wife's name adorns the sign on this construction site as it reaches the third floor.

i think i took some pictures too, so when i find em i'll put em up here.

You didn't know her name was going on it? I had read it but I don't think it received any wide spread publicity. Suzanne Roberts is a former actress from back in the day.....waaaaay back in the day.

I know some people complain about Comcast......but where would this city be without it and the Roberts family?

Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces Name of New Performing Home on The Avenue of the Arts In Honor of Suzanne Roberts

April 28, 2005

PTC's new performing home on the Avenue of the Arts will be named after Suzanne Roberts. Portrait by Alan Kolc.
Philadelphia Theatre Company proudly announces that the name of its new home on the Avenue of the Arts will be the Suzanne Roberts Theater in honor of actress, playwright and director Suzanne Roberts. The new theater space, located at the corner of Broad and Lombard Streets on the Avenue of the Arts, will feature a dramatic glass façade, a 365-seat traditional proscenium auditorium, and a studio space. The building is expected to be completed by Fall, 2007.

I'm feeling that design also on the street level... could add a lil more pizazz to the upper floors.

i know who "seeking solutions with" suzanne roberts is, but i wasn't aware the theatre was named for her. appreciate the info and image SJ, but that rendering is just hideous. any positive thoughts i try to have about symphony house are crushed by stuff like that. the drake is photoshopped in as an afterthought, there is nothing -- nothing -- good above the theatre, be it design or context or use (is it indeed a garage? if so could you maybe slap on a cornice?), and finally, the sign. minstral font is the best they could come up with??? they're doing suzanne an injustice by using a windows 98 pre-installed font to showcase her name, even if it is just a rendering.

I don't mind it. It'll look nice I guess. A bit plain, but you can't ask for everything. It'll fit the area. As long as there's no neon, it's all good.

^What's wrong with neon? I wish neon would be used much more often.

I agree with Sasso, the top portion looks like an incomplete afterthought. It needs a cornice or a band of different colored material.

I was at the site tonight and it looks like the formwork for the second floor is partially installed. It's actually sloped like a ramp which makes me think the first few floors above ground level are for parking.

I really like Suzanne Roberts but she looks like a sock puppet.

Yea, I wouldnt mind some neon either, it would actually fit in w/ the neon lights at the Wilma Theatre across the street.

This is a beautiful building, even if it does resemble a wedding cake.
