maybe if the smallest tower on the right was removed it would look a lot better, more slender, and a bit more composed. but honestly i do like the design, It would contrast the tallest buildings from the 70's very well. this is a first for Chicago, probably the most contemporary skyscraper in Chicago if built
i made some rough renderings of how the tower will look in the skyline, and what Chicago will look like if a number of large developments are constructed. the shapes arent completely accurate but the heights are! the models are just to show the impact it would have in the skyline. check it here! vvv https://www.flickr.com/photos/125258335@N02/

Quite an impact. Gives a peak to the area viewed from within the lake.
The 350-meter-high building, located near Chicago’s Millennium Park, will start being built this year and is expected to open to visitors in 2018 and will become the third-highest building in the city, according to the report.
Many of the greatest works of art in history were panned by critics of the day.... and yet, with time, have gone on to be recognized as visionary works ahead of their time and are now considered, "masterpieces".
This building has all the ear markings of being potentially being such a work. Time will tell.
Every skyline should have a few of these visionary works of art and steel mixed in with the typical towers that we so often see. How boring would a skyline be if it only built one thing/one look/one style. As they say, VARIETY is the spice of life. When a skyline is known for only one type of tower only, I believe that is when a skyline losses its zeal/pop/pizzazz/dynamism.
..... and the masterstroke of this tower is that despite the fact that it is clearly one of a kind... it also fits within the 'theme' and general shape/characteristics of the Chicago skyline.
I, for one, like the fact that people come on here to criticize it... while others come on here to praise it. It is... without question... thought provoking. The greatest works of art in history are exactly that - thought provoking.

Wow. This thing is gonna be huge! Can't wait to see better renderings. I'm really sick of blue glass; hopefully it gets darker. Idk. Cool massing though.
I understand the apprehension towards the design. It's definitely different, but it has an oddly "Chicago" flair to it...in the sense that these tube-like structures of three different heights are aligned in a row in a way that's not unlike the 9 bundled tubes of the Willis Tower. Kind of like a strange love-child between Willis and Trump. Also it's clear that this rendering is preliminary and that the design will likely be fine-tuned somewhat.
I'll wait and see. I just still want them to build The Chicago at Michigan and Roosevelt XD
