The floorplates look somewhat complicated.

I like the balconies. The look fits well with the architecture.

^ good thought, chicubs. The black railings really do look good with the color precast they're using, and a black roof could be really cool

Retailers Hold Their Own in a Taxing Situation

Thursday, July 17, 2008
By Beth Wilson

The good news is upscale retailers continue to seek, lease and launch locations in the affluent Gold Coast area. Among the most notable are Marc Jacobs leasing space for a Marc Jacobs Collection boutique at the corner of Rush and Walton Streets in the Elysian Hotel...

I agree a darker crown would look slick with those balconies.

Charlie Trotter, Marc Jacobs. Elysian is living up to its luxurious claims.

Right!

It's turning out to be as ever chic as the developers promised. What's next? A Bently dealership in the garage?

Isn't there already a Bently dealership very close to the Elysian?

I was cleaning out my camera, a few pictures of the Elysian from last week of June. Growing nicely into the precast concrete skyline.

A little zoom in on the Elysian and we see the fugly butt of 30 W.

A little closer toward the base

Its funny, in your first picture, there are only two buildings that are completely made of precast other than the Elysian, and one of those (Onterie Center) happens to be an engineering and design gem. The rest are all brick, stone, or metal and glass cladding...

The parking structure just across the street from the Elysian. I've been in there a few times to take pictures of this project. Can that ramps support a larger building on the top? (with the exception of a few levels of retail lol.)

While some of my least fav buildings in Chicago are in this area, I think I like the density layout the most. Good infill, with some good midrises between the highrises. It gives each highrise its' own little stage.

It is really cool that another east-west canyon is forming, giving another layer to the skyline there.
