mdiederi, I don't understand your comment about the meter to feet conversion being wrong on wikipedia. There are about 10 square feet to 1 square meter, and the flower mart has about 1 million square meters, or 10 million square feet, so why do you say around 3 million square feet? Did you forget to square the meter-foot conversion?

Looking back at the Wiki page I don't remember exactly what confused me, but scrolling down to the very bottom it says that the page was modified on 7 February 2007, so maybe they fixed what was throwing me off. Or, maybe I just flubbed up my calculation, wouldn't be the first time. Perhaps missed a zero on one of the figures?

It's amazing that that flower auction has that much space on mostly one floor. Probably the world's largest footprint

Whoa, that thing is massive. Funny thing, the one thing that comes to my mind when I see/hear the world "palazzo" is public execution, which were ofren performed on large squares (palazzos) to be viewed by the crowd. often such executions were brutal and gory (such as getting beaten to death with a large wooden plank).

I think the core has maybe 40 or 50 feet to go and the steel will go right up to there.

Yes, you can see it here, it's not as long as the other two.

Las Vegas never ceases to amaze me. Truly a one-of-a-kind city.

Thanks for the great update - I know 3500 rooms isn't a record, but 3500 rooms on that size floorplan (of the tower itself) probably is for Vegas.

I tell ya, Vegas is certainly optimistic about its future - be that gaming, conventions, general tourism, etc.

Basically nothing is happening in Reno - except an explosion of single family homes, retail shops, commercial/industrial business. Lots of PLANS for casinos and towers, but not a lot of action.

It's funny because the Palazzo is actually only one of two additional phases of the Venetian. Sands has planned a condo tower on this property we'll be hearing about sometime this year.

I was in Sacramento last week and somebody from Reno told me that Station Casinos started construction on their project at Mt. Rose highway, but I have my doubts about that because I haven't heard anything else about construction starting yet. Is it true?

Yes, they will first build a Barneys department store and then build the condo tower on top of it. Interestingly, they have said that the condo tower will have a modern facade, but they haven't shown any renderings yet.

This is an older picture of the corner where the Barneys and condo tower will go, but I went past it today and not much else has happened there yet. I think they are going to cut a hole in that wall and connect the Barneys to the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian.

That would be a brilliant move, because it would add a new entrance to the Shoppes (through Barneys) and it would practically double the appeal of the shopping mall as well.

Actually one might even say its just common sense.
