Anyone else besides me have some love for this Bell building? I don't ever see it photographed on any Hamont social media accounts. I think I like it because it reminds me of a building I would see in fictional Gotham City!

I do. I also think this one would have be a real gem of a skyscraper at 15 or more floors (the part with the art deco facade only though, not the dreary 1950s-60s addition). It would have been a nice complement to the Pigott Building.

It's sat hidden behind the church for so long, so I think it's gone relatively unnoticed.

Here's the page about it at Historical Hamilton: http://historicalhamilton.com/durand...aker-exchange/

Split personality. The Jackson façade is reminiscent of the Pigott but the rear 80% is akin to the YMCA.

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't go a little higher - even 10 stories would have ensured it sticks out on the skyline a little...

I'm glad something's finally going in there, but that seems like a big space for that...

The building and parking lot on the south west corner of Cannon and Hughson has been fenced off. I just noticed it today. Any body know of any plans? It's 127 Hughson North, beside The Spice Factory. It is a beautiful building with great details. Hoping for something exceptional.

Last I heard it was going to be redeveloped into office space in 2021 or something, but I cannot find that information back anywhere.

At the moment it seems it is simply not going to be used. Looks to be a Coppley owned building that has move operation to the new MacNab building.

Are there any residential projects in the city that were about to start that will now be delayed due to new residential projects being declared non-essential?

Cobalt as well most likely.

They need above grade permits to qualify, and I doubt they have it yet.

Should James North close to cars for now?

By Barry Gray Photojournalist thespec.com Mon., April 13, 2020

An online petition from some Hamiltonians would like to see James Street North closed off to traffic to allow more room for pedestrians to walk safely during the current COVID-19 physical distancing measures.

Whitehead will moan and complain that a street on the mountain is losing out to a downtown street.

I think we're going to see a lot of that in the coming weeks.

I think so too - lack of people around = people getting up to more mischief. Police should be patrolling the major areas.

Maybe businesses will be doing this and claiming the insurance as they go under due to the pandemic?
