City council gives Cineplex green light to serve alcohol at St. John's theatre
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfo...vies-1.5450129

Quote:
St. John's city council voted 9-2 in favour of letting Cineplex apply a liquor licence from the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation, with the catch that the theatre can only sell beer and wine, no spirits. Coun. Wally Collins and Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O'Leary voted against the motion.

The Doubletree site https://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/ho...ing/index.html says they're accepting reservations for May 1 and beyond, and also still shows Rumplestiltskin's as their restaurant. I passed by there this evening and the entrance from Hill O'Chips is completely tarped off and it looks like the restaurant is being renovated again, which is strange since they went through a big reno just before they closed. I'm guessing much of their cook staff have moved on, but hopefully they will be back as good as before.

For anyone who would like to support Brewdock Pub & Eatery at Duckworth/Hill O'Chips:

http://www.stjohns.ca/public-notice/...worth-street-0

https://www.thetelegram.com/business...ck-bar-409492/

There are some in the area that are worried about the outdoor space but I think some light music and live music will actually add to the area. Speaking with the owner it sounds like it'll be more acoustic and jazz geared. Outdoor space will be shut down by 11 pm anyway.

Please send an email with your support to the City Clerk and Councilors, asap. The details are in the proposal.

Brewdock owner said it is the chef from Adelaide Oysterhouse, Steve Vardy, that will be opening the new restaurant. It is currently under renovations but should be open before summer season starts.

Does anyone have any idea what restaurant is going in the building that’s across the street from the Costco gas bar in Galway? It’s a stand alone building, already built. It has that fake wood cladding and black strips. It’s likely a fast food place but no branding is in place yet.

The original plan was for a June or July opening but not sure how many work stoppages resulted from the crappy winter weather and delayed work. It seems to be moving good this past month though. Roofs are now covered. Once windows are in, I’m sure things will move quicker. But I would say late summer hopefully. I work for the Holiday Inn hotel next door and they also own the restaurant.

The new A&W at the North Atlantic in Paradise is pretty close to opening. All signage is up and the interior looks to be finished.

Little Sparow

The new restaurant at the Hilton DoubleTree (Old Quality Inn DT) is called the Little Sparrow. The new sign is up and some info on their site about it.

Any idea where they will be located? Perhaps they are one of the two food places slated for outside the Avalon Mall? Or perhaps Galway. Either way the location should likely be popular.

No, still there. I took a screenshot of it, but didn't have patience to figure out if I could upload it.
