people build tall buildings not because it's effecient or 'beautiful' but because they can, that's dubai's spirit right now which NYC has completely lost.

Pefectly put..but I need to give my two cents too. The North One ...no disrespect to you but I don't think that it's fair to judge people based off of one topic. Sure we love tall skyscrapers but just looking at this topic couldn't possibly tell you what everyone thinks a city is. I don't know about everyone else, but I live in a city..New York to be exact..I'm pretty sure that I see what makes up a city every single day. I've lived in the the burbs and the city..and by the age I'm at now I should be able to tell you the many differences between the two. You saying that about us is like me saying that all you do is talk negatively about people on this forum..Now, if I've never seen other posts from you before (which I haven't) how could I make a claim like that? Again, no disrespect to you but please don't hate unless you have a legitimate reason to do so..actually we shouldn't be hating at all. This is a forum on the internet..it's really no that serious enough to throw shots at people...sorry for the distraction everyone..carry on

I think the pocono's of northeastern PA will become downtown and manhattan will be a suburb.

Not really centralized around NYC, they are all fictitious cities, but just stumbled upon this site and though some of the future-skyline renderings were just awesome....

Maybe you're right when it comes to ordinary highrises, but you're wrong when it comes to supertalls. There is not a single place on Earth where space is so scarce that supertalls are economically viable, fame and ego factors aside.

personaly i would knock down the metlife building. Replace it with a tower that pays tribute too grand central and recent postmodern architecture.

^^ noooo! it may not be beautiful, but i still like it for its massiveness!

btw i just realized something for the first time...

buildings over 100fl: 1WTC (108) & ESB (102)
buildings with 90- 100fl: none
buildings with 80- 100fl: none

buildings with 70- 80 fl: chrysler building, 40 wall street, beekman tower, TWT, GE building, cityspire center, 2WTC, 3WTC, C 57, ...

that's pretty strange considering that NY has (and will have) many supertall buildings. 2 & 3WTC could easily have more than 80 fl, and 15 penn too.

EDIT i know that nowadays there's a different construction code for floor plans ... but i'm still wondering.

well a supertall 'could' go up on the westside railyards development or on the eastside below the un, but it won't. none of the proposals for those sites involve anything like that. at least as far as i have seen or heard. even girasole i think is is only like 1k ft, not sure but it is definately not what we are talking about.

it would probably have to be something on an odd random midtown lot like the moma tower verre.

i also dont see it happening in brooklyn at all, but it just might happen in lic or jersey someday.
