I love madison. What did that guy mean about the 30 degree temperature difference though? Is it way hotter there, I know it is inland from Lake Michigan but how far inland do cooling lake breezes really go? Just 5 miles or so I thought.

Ok Coldayman, I'm down with you and all that but I'm just curious, was the "no black people" quote an inside joke you have with the poster of this thread or what. We all know you aren't racist I'm just curious where that statement came from.

I haven't been on the forums much for the last 3 years so you'll have to excuse me if I didn't *get* what you wrote. Thanks

Great pics, I haven't been to Madison in a few years. I have to get back. American cities less then 300k could take many cues from Madison in this country.

Yes, it was an inside joke (not only to the poster but to others as well).

I've only been in Madison for a few hours while I had time to kill during a business trip. But it was a warm day and I had a great walk around the downtown area.
I loved the dynamicism of the place - the college town and the state capitol rolled into one. The name escapes me now, but that main pedestrian street was something. I stopped and just watched some street musicians at a plaza for a while. Very urban and walkable while still being a small town.

The coolest thing about Madison is how you can see where the city ends from a midrise building looking in any direction. That city is the ultimate walking city. Its miles and miles of boundless urban fabric makes for a never-ending sense of discovery for the inquisitive urban explorer in all of us. I can't even fathom what life might be in this city, its too overwhelming.

Those were excellent pictures pigboy, a great sample of the place overall! I lived there for a while, going to college at UW, and still have friends there. I remember how small I thought it was when I first moved there, but happy that it was still dense and walkable. You definitely dont need a car there. The fact that highrises are prohibited leads to that plateau-like skyline, but it helps make it more dense. I agree with CGII that the Milwaukee high-speed rail connection needs to get built already.

As for the side commentary, I also thought it wasn't that diverse (particularly the college and downtown area, but other areas like the south and east sides are more diverse), and the progressive attitude is very selective. Many people of color there have issues with the overall attitude and leadership. I personally have a love hate relationship with that place, but I know full well that it could be a lot worse.

Anyway, its a nice change of pace from a bigger city, and a great place to visit and have a good time. Lots of parks, the lakes, state street, etc. which these awesome pictures show. I still go up there often to visit, but i dont know if I would want to live there again (but i might). I recommend any who have the time to make the visit.
