trueviking.. bravo. Completely inspirational. I won't even mention how those blades will end up destroy the building. Art must take sacrifices.

(Wonder what direction the windmill will face)

simply elevate the blades higher, while still using the glass peak of the muesum to hide the pole.

lol, why don't you guys build several along the river? I see potential spots for 3 or 4... and I assume that there is more as you go... could be very stylish... Actually, this has me thinking about something for Vancouver.

Maybe the tests would prove negative, and they won't build any at the Forks.

Is anyone able to whip up an image of the skyline, but from ground level, and paste that huge fan into it, and then tell me what you think! I mean, just think about it 80 meters, thats massively tall ,its gonna have a real strange look, and not in a good way, besides its going to make our office towers seem an awful lot shorter.

Here's an idea, put it up at the UofM, theres lots of space, plus potential that the campus would want in on the idea, maybe adding a few more, plus promotes the green concept in the perfect environment.

I think it would be hilarious, random, and pretty sweet all at the same time. A random windmill right in the heart of the city why don't you!

Plus, those "new" windmills with those curved blades that were designed to keep the noise down is pretty cool. If that's going to be installed, then by all means. We now have a wind generator for the Goldeyes, AND an open food processor blade.

How can these not be noisy...the tip of one of those blades ripping through the air at 100mph + has got to create some noise and turbulence...

What a weird feeling walking under these giant spinning blades would be.

The test tower has been up and running for about a month now. Early reports are already favorable for a large tower. Forks has said it will probably happen earlier than later. Original plan was to monitor for one year and decide on course of action. Most likely this summer we should see an announcement. They are currently working out financing.

Having seen one in California a few years back, my own opinion is that these windmills are pretty ugly.

I wouldn't want something like that competing for attention with the Esplanade and surrounding skyline.

You can also go out to St. Leon and see some.

I never been here yet, but one time we were just a town over and now I wish I want over to St. Leon to see the windmills.

I was in St Leon last week and got a tour of the site. Actually got to go into one of the turbines. Pretty cool. Unbelievably quiet. Personally I like the look of them. One neat thing I didn't realize - they all turn at exactly the same speed. 14.4 rpm.

They are very ugly.. and if you have ever been to a wind farm you know they are also noisey. The whirring of the wind turbine is not exactly inviting.

Overall a very poor idea for a place such as the Forks.

What are you talking about? I was standing in the middle of 63 of them and couldn't hear anything. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. They sure are more attractive than oil rigs.

hmm I for one never been close to windmill yet but plan onto driving to st Leon soon. You would think those things are noisy so it beeing downtown not a good idea.. I have heard conflicting reports on whether those things are noisy or not.
So
here is a crazy idea lets have them outline the city border that way the city won't expand anymore outwords to suburburbia.

I agree ... lets not put any oil rigs at the Forks either.

I have been to a wind farm outside of Lethbridge and when that wind is going you know it.

I believe MB Hydro refers to the noise problem in one of there public releases. I will try to locate it.
