Layout makes a big difference for both. But yes even 850sf 2BR with a "stranger" room mate will feel a lot smaller than 323sf on your own.

They could always just abandon their kids. Not saying that that's a super common issue, but there's hundreds of reasons someone might actually need to live in Vancouver outside of lifestyle choice.
I said forced, not that leaving Vancouver wouldn't be difficult for someone with ties to the area.

Surely moving somewhere else for cheaper real estate is easier said than done for some, but there are a lot of fresh college graduates from elsewhere in Canada (I am one, my colleague is from Burlington, my other colleague is from Port Moody but went to school in London, my other colleague went to school in Calgary, etc.) who choose to move or return to Vancouver when they could just as easily establish themselves elsewhere.

Hmm...I would strongly disagree! Many folks, myself included, have little choice but to live in Vancouver. I'm a 4th gen Vancouverite, and all my extended family is here. This means that several my elderly relatives in their 80s and 90s don't have children and rely on me for support.

There are countless other scenarios which make it difficult/impossible for people to move away. There's also the fact that many have built a career locally -- for me, my business relies heavily on referrals and repeat business -- this is hard to replicate when moving elsewhere, especially, later in life.

I am glad you enjoyed third world living conditions and also welcome these modern SROs, which these units are. It's a sad state of things that so many people buying into the BS of "the city being your backyard" and "your cornerstone coffee shop being your living room". If that's a solution, then the homeless people must be living the life!

Haha, precisely! Next step will be 250 sqft suites (who needs a kitchen with Doordash), then 200 sqft units (why need a bed when you can sleep on a couch) and finally cage homes. I cannot wait for the low carbon footprint such life will bring everyone in this regressive utopia.

These latest Metrotown towers have definitely raised the bar on what gets sold here $psf. I think these units are into central Vancouver price territory if I last heard.

Check your privilege - if you've ever been to the actual third world, you'd realize that many of them would kill to live in a shoebox at Metrotown.

I was thinking somewhere a bit more developed. Still ass compared to a first-world condo, either way.

Yes a friend of mine sold up in BC and moved to Winnipeg last winter, March 23, where they could buy a house outright with what they sold up in BC and he just returned to BC, he said the wages in Manitoba were really bad in his field and they didn't recognize his schooling and long story short he's in his 50s now and trying to reestablish yourself at that age is much tougher than when you are in your 20s or 30s. I think a lot of people are in a similar position, just leaving is not an easy option.

I just realized this has retractable balcony glass.
You guys have no idea how good this tower is going to look like if it's fully dressed with retractable balcony glass.
So happy Vancouver is moving towards this trend with Greenhouse by Concord, Solhouse, and Concord Metrotown boasting them..
It's going to be a solution to Canada's ugly architectural language for condos

Here's an example:
