No. It is awful. And we have plenty of apartment buildings in Philly including Goldtex (Bridgeview, American Lofts, hell, even the Piazza) which is right there that show the market can support better design and construction.

Ditto for all the new stuff on North Broad, being generally well designed, including the just out of the ground buildings on Callowhill and Broad.

This well we need to accept it because it's Philly attitude is exhausting.

No you don't. Especially in this location.

Most of the properties along the High Line were completely vacant until AFTER it opened. There is literally NO reason to rush development in this area. So if these people can't do better, then they can go build this at 8th & Allegheny or wherever it belongs. Not steps from Center City and feet from the new rail park.

There is already enough crap in that area that is just popping up "just because".

The gallery actually has a pretty nice basic design on the inside, it stood the test of time pretty well. I really want to see more details about what they plan to do with the exterior of this building.

Mmm...maybe basic 'bones' of the interior are OK, but seems pretty bleak and depressing to me. There's a lot of work needed inside too.

I feel like everyone thinks there is no ugly architecture in NYC. There is lots of cool stuff being built there (and here) but there is a lot of meh stuff too. There are also multiple blocks in Chelsea with old ugly buildings. These are all within blocks of the high line in meatpacking or Chelsea...

I was under the impression that philly was only major older city with ANY ugly buildings. In other cities they demand and get (magically) great architecture every time!

Looks like some work started on this project. They removed all the windows in the back of the building and the top row of windows on the front. And 2 workers on a lift were doing something on the east side of the building.

Let's hope! I thought that project was given up for dead.

And all of that was there before the High Line.

Point?

I'm the first one to argue there are plenty of meh buildings in NYC (I look at them every day)...but so close to the pending rail park this is unacceptable. That will become a very prime site very soon.

Yeesh. They'll be changing those facade colors in less than ten years. Brutal.
