Awesome tower. I love both sides of it.

Definitely the coolest tower that will go up in the Transbay area. I think it will be even more stunning once its built

So when will it be added to the diagram?

^^Yes, that part of the lot is where the shorter tower--the one with the hotel and condos--will go. Right now they are using it mostly as a staging area for the demolition of the existing buildings on the lot along 1st St where the taller tower will be.

I think this tower looks much better than Salesforce. This and 181 Fremont are the two in this cycle that are epic IMO.

Ugly elevators or not this pic really makes this tower look like it's going to be amazing!

Bottom half - John Hancock, top half - Hearst Tower.

Looks to become a true landmark.

As sad as I am about the decision to go with the Pelli design for SFT, I'm thrilled about this tower. The contrast of the bland Salesforce Tower nextdoor will make this tower look even better.

I have a comment and a question.

Comment: I AM LIVING FOR THOSE MODELS. San Francisco is really going to walk away as having one of the most recognizable and beautiful skylines in the world. And it was starting from a pretty high baseline..

Question: In that link, did I read a projected 2021 completion date? Isn't that a little pessimistic?

^^^Thanks for the nice comment.

Yes, 2021 completion is correct. Remember, they are building two rather different very tall and large skyscrapers in a very tight space right next to each other.

Yes, I wonder if they won't have to build them sequentially, using the site of the second as a marshalling yard while they build the first. And remember that this small area around 1st/Mission/Fremont is already the site of construction of two very tall buildings (Salesforce and 181 Fremont). One wonders how much more construction activity going on simultaneously it could take. So it may be that they will be inhibited also by the work on the 2 buildings already under construction until those are finished sometime this year.

Finally, remember how so many complained about how long the exavations and caison building was taking for Salesforce/181? Expect that lengthy process in spades for these 2.

^^^The basement level of both towers are fully connected. Excavation will be for the entire complex. I suspect that foundation work for both towers will begin simultaneously, and the construction that follows. The combined footprints of both structures are very large, larger than Salesforce Tower's. You may be right that the work below grade for Oceanwide Center may take even longer than Salesforce Tower. And since the taller structure to rise above is especially complex in design, that will take even more time to construct as well. 181 Fremont construction is just a preview. With two towers as such, this will be the largest, most complex construction project of skyscrapers ever to be constructed in San Francisco in about the same time. The Embarcadero Center was constructed in phases instead, and took about 12 or 13 years to complete.

Does anyone know if the basement/garage levels will extend under the old smaller buildings that will remain on the corner? I don't know if those are owned by Oceanwide as well, but it would be good if they were updated (including getting rid of the fire escapes) as part of this project.

^^Oceanwide doesn't own those buildings and I seem to recall that they tried to buy one of them and couldn't reach a deal. Hard to imagine the owners would allow the properties to be undermined by Oceanwide construction--seems to me that would greatly reduce the value of those properties for some future project.
