Sorry I mean between Quartz Creek and Donald, including that 6% slope for 2 KM with a wide hairpin in between.

^ Brings an interesting question, would it be Donald-Quartz Creek or Golden-Donald that would be twinned first? Golden-Donald (~25km) has easier terrain and would make it 4 lanes from Yoho National Park to the Columbia River, be time will tell.

^ I don’t care what sections they do first as long as they keep the momentum going on this Kamloops to Alberta twinning. Constantly have a few projects on the go like they have been for the last number of years.

Well, looks like after kicking Horse and Chase wrap up there will be 14 or so km U/C with the current slot of projects, including the rather major bridge project in Sicamous.

The big question is with Kicking Horse done, what will be the next major “difficult section” of focus?

I wouldn’t mind them doing at least one “low fruit” section where the money can be spread out over more km. Such as from Golden.

Yeah west of Golden would be good as the $/km should be less. Would also result in a decent continuous stretch of twinned TCH west of Calgary (assuming the Feds get their act in gear and finish Yoho).

That's a huge milestone on this long-overdue and desperately-needed project. Kudos to the successive BC governments that have funded the majority of the project and the federal governments that has consistently contributed to the cost-sharing of this nationally-significant piece of infrastructure.

Absolutely worthy of champagne popping - can’t wait to drive it.

A rare project that successive governments saw through without any political undermining. A damn good project too. That now 25km stretch of roadway is perhaps the most interesting in Canada technically (for a non urban stretch of highway) with some pretty grand structures.

Can’t wait to drive it one day.

Now this is a pretty awesome picture of the now substantially completed Kicking Horse Canyon project.

I'm actually happy now that they didn't go with the 3KM tunnel option, as this is much nicer driving experience.

I'm no engineer, but that looks disturbingly unstable.

A lot of people have voiced the same concern.
The pile on that longer pier is drilled 10 m ~ 12 m into the bedrock.
Oddly enough, the rocks there are considered hard rocks…
Doubtless, erosion control will be key.

Looks great.

Now to get on with twinning the rest of the TCH in BC - only, what, 300km left?

I’ll be curious about the feasibility of twinning the stretch through the Three Valley Gap.
That’s the next hardest spot that’s still under provincial jurisdiction.

That will definitely be another 100 million + per km section. My feeling now is should we spend the big bucks for another challenging choke point, or spend that money on some more relatively cheap sections, such as between Golden and Donald, and get some more KMs done.
