^Eh, it's decent filler. Not excited but don't really have a problem with this one either...

Maybe some hope of GEMS Phase II:

It reminds me of the tri-hotel with its two-in-one facade. I don't hate it. And I agree that the lack of podium is nice to see.

1001 s state is essentially topped out.
It looks like the replacement glass for the broken windows is not the same as the rest of the building. Wonder if they will fix that.

As a long time resident/office drone of the Boeing Building, I can attest this building has aged very well - if more buildings took note of the way Boeing hides its parking, we'd have a much more attractive River North.

And I check the clock anytime I'm biking into work down Canal - so at least one person found it useful.

^well, that's nice to know... yeah, the ol' Morton International Building clock tower did suffer a little with the addition of the Boeing logo (although it is an awesome logo IMO)... they had to granite over some of the spandrel windows up there to make room... I always thought they should have let the granite turn the corner and just go ahead and remove the glazing on the east elevation as well (leaving the glazing in the center of the clock tower)... it would have created a kinda 'hammer-head' on the corners, but I think it would have looked more purposeful...

The lack of a podium is great, and I like the openness of the 2nd level (although I question the wisdom of putting the amenity deck that low rather than on the roof).
On the other hand the unbroken first floor ruins the 2-in-1 facade's illusion, which is already weak due to the unbroken horizontal lines shared by both halves.

See, now this is what I love. Nobody knew anything about this development until it was suddenly announced. You gotta love it. I'm guessing this is as-of-right since there is no mention of community meetings?

^Well, I reported the soil testing back in July, and someone immediately posted that it would be a student housing project.

But, yes, as far as I know (haven't heard a unit count), it would be an as-of-right project. And that's as it should be.

Development at Wabash and Balbo
I do have some information on the soil-boring equipment at Wabash and Balbo. George's Liquors and Harold's are soon to bite the dust. Those two lots are being redeveloped into highrise student housing this fall.

Looks like you had actual info Wouldn't call it student housing though - they're hoping to attract students as well as recent college grads.

Anyway, the thing is not that great overall, but the actually street level part might be good. I hope those are stores - more than 1. If so, then that's pretty good. To be honest though, I kind of wish this was going in the parking lot cross the street even if the buildings they're tearing down aren't anything majorly special. The parking lot would have been better

^ The next best thing to redeveloping a parking lot is the redevelop next to a parking lot, increasing the development pressure

Evanston roundup

831 Emerson - 267 units, retail

Seems to be getting worse with each revision

601 Davis - 217 units, retail

1815 Ridge - 165 (senior) units

The huge signage seems unnecessary

Mmmmm ... if the office market is getting tighter, I would much rather see Franklin and Washington or Wolf Point hoover up the still viable relocation tenants before this.
