Haven't been keeping the closest eye on this anymore... is the whole Rothesay underpass or traffic lights been finally determined as of yet? Is Drunken Jeff Browaty still dithering all over the place regarding the intersection?

The flyover at Rothesay will most likely happen, although not officially confirmed as of yet.

The project has been put on the slow track right now because they are concentrating all of their efforts on the Disraeli bridge debacle - which too has been amazingly quiet. (i wonder if there isn't more going on behind the scenes there that we are being kept in the dark about?)

I hope so. The notion of replacing a 4 lane bridge with a four lane bridge and a separate pedestrian/cycle bridge is absurd.

I'd say the latter.

There have been many debates, and conversations about us, over and over again, and they all lead up to the same conclusion. We can poke fun at ourselves, but we also need to get over our insecurities about our city. It's also a reminder that some of us take our city way too serious, and we need to lighten up from time to time.

Now, back on topic, many of these projects, like the Disraeli and Chief Peguis, have been relatively extremely quiet. Besides what's been posted already, will there be any announcements coming up soon?

The closing of the Disraeli RFP to the 3 short listed firms was extended until Sep 1 of this year. So i don't imagine we will know the contractor until Oct.

Its my understanding that Henderson Highway is the bottleneck and building a more expensive bridge/expressway linking it to Main Street won't improve traffic flow.

If it could be shown it would improve traffic flow by building a new 6 lane roadway linking Henderson and Main I would be all for it.

Certainly can't argue with the logic. But if they ever plan to expand that roadway the new bottleneck is the bridge. We need to plan long term. Build the bridge today. Expand the highway in steps tomorrow and the next day and again the next day...

How? By eliminating Elmwood's retail and service area? Not likely.

Better to plan to route less traffic through there, not more.

I have a solution to the whole Disraeli bridge controversy, and it all just comes down to wording - instead on making the bridge 3 lanes in either direction, just make it 2 lanes in either direction with a full lane of shoulder. The bridge actually functions fine - WHEN THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS. If there was a full lane shoulder you could at least push a wreck to the side to keep traffic flowing. The bridge is just too damn narrow.

many cities that have bridges have tow trucks parked during rush hour at the base of the bridge, anything happens the vehicle(s) get towed away right away

I remember the Disraeli had this a few years back. The tow truck would sit at the turn of just by the Elmwood Cemetary (southbound). I would pass by it every day - i guess it was too costly for the city.

The truck was stationed there during the time the Redwood was closed.
