I'm still amazed that yet another building gets torn town for an empty lot, BUT yes, an opportunity for a proper court or 3 to help provide activity, fitness and a more urban amenity.

To be fair, I don't believe that YMCA was ever used. The Don Wheaton YMCA is just a couple of blocks away and has been fully operational for years.

A basketball/pickleball court makes far more sense (although I'm not sure how how long the pickleball trend is going to last).

Yup.

ROAM Transit here in the Bow Valley is part of this action as they piggybacked on the order.
--

Contrary to the contract specification that the buses would be suitably designed to perform in Edmonton’s climate conditions and would have an operating range of 328 kilometres, or 268 kilometres in extreme cold, the range has consistently been much shorter," the claim says.
"On average, the bus range has been approximately 165 kilometres in the winter and, at best, 250 kilometres in warmer weather."

Mechanical issues such as gearbox failures, steering box failures, and cracking of the composite body structures have also kept most of the buses off the road.

Just put in a basketball court and a pickleball court on the same land once the LRT construction is completed.

We'll all be dead before Valley Line West is complete! lol

It's under construction and I don't think most of us are 80 years old.

It's now 2024 and there's still been no Valley Line LRT construction on 102 Ave. WTF is taking them so long?

So my understanding -- I think the east part of the property was required for a "turnaround"
Since they're closing the alley access, you need enough space for larger vehicles like garbage trucks and firetrucks to U-turn or make 3-pt turns.

Seems like a bunch of the alleys north of 102 avenue are impacted.

I agree the city should just turn it into a public space for a court

That's correct and why they tore an entire building down for a few extra feet.

I worry option 2 will not turn out to be "rapid bus lane" and it is unclear how many actual "heated rapid bus stops" there will be down Whyte. The devil is in the details and in this case are lacking.

The comment about people commuting in is valid. You would need to create parking nodes in areas just off white. Bayview Village in TO had a few of these. Restrict the street parking but have it off the street. Its bad enough parking in the area, take what you have away and it will be hell.

Absolutely disgusting.

Time for folks to take back the streets, which might need some vigilante justice for these pieces of garbage.

I am so sick and tired of hearing of events like this where innocent individuals, especially those who are very young or older are getting jumped and robbed.

Infuriating and why so many have gone away from transit when commuting Downtown.

^ And again I ask why is there not security patrolling the platform?

I have not seen a permanent police presence ever in that area.

EPS dropping the ball once again, especially with their new 'outpost' in the old Three Bananas space.
