What a horrible rename, only one thing I will ever think of now!...Regis Philbin..... And it being Alinea related for the restaurant means I will never get to enjoy cause it will always be booked....looks like i will only get to enjoy that beautiful lobby from the bar.

I love it. We need more Saints in this world, not less.

Vista didn't have a good ring to it originally in my opinion, but I got used to it. We'll get used to St Regis.

ChiSky, if you save up and make a reservation ahead of time, you'll get to enjoy the restaurant. It's built for customers so there's always a way to find an opening.

Great news about the new flag.

I wonder what effect this has on those 2 frivolous lawsuits

There are many many other multi-use (hotel+residential) towers around the world that are named after their hotel component, it's not at all unheard of. For many developments, it's a major selling point because of potential shared amenities for residents to use. To me, it's better than 'Wanda'.

Why was the whole name of the thread changed just because of the hotel?

That's going to throw people off.

^ because according to the trib article the entire tower is now being rebranded as "The St. Regis Chicago".

If they're article is wrong, we can always change it back.

Btw, I left "Vista" in the thread title so as to not overly confuse people.

Haha honestly "Vista Tower" has got a lot of bad press in the past year.

From the glass delays making it look like that unfinished hotel in Pyongyang... to those ugly vents facing Grant Park... to the blow through floor... to the Chinese government making it's namesake company the face of 'bad' capital outflows and forcing the sale of Wanda's foreign assets... and finally to a series of very public lawsuits by condo owners trying to do anything to get out of their sales...

I think it's safe to say the Wanda Vista Tower hasn't exactly made a great name for itself. Only Trump Tower has had a similar reversal of branding fortunes. Except at the end of the day, Trump tower is a fantastic building with a fantastic hotel. Whereas Vista is/was a delayed, unfinished building that people are actually spending money on legal fees to try and avoid moving in to.

This is basically like Comcast rebranding to Xfinity. Except imagine Xfinity as an exclusive luxury brand with a hundred years of history.

A new plateau is starting to form. The 1422' Tribune Tower addition would help, by poking well above this plateau.

BTW Midtown Manhattan will soon have a similar "problem" albeit at around 1400' instead of 1200'.

Do people here not understand what the St. Regis is? This is a much more well known name - very luxury brand - known around the world and highly regarded. From a marketing perspective with this name brand, this is 100X better. Put it this way - last time I stepped foot in a St. Regis was when my friend stayed at one in NYC. There were a bunch of US Senators staying in it. Yes, it's one of those types of hotels.

Honestly, if I were some of the people suing because Wanda won't be doing the hotel anymore, I'd feel pretty silly right now. St. Regis is a step up or two from Wanda Hotels and much higher on a recognition standpoint worldwide.

Seriously, St Regis is arguably the nicest brand in Marriott/SPG portfolio, other being the edition brand, which would also have been an amazing option.

St Regis > four seasons/Ritz/trump in terms of brand exclusivity and cache. They only have ATL/SF/NYC/DC/Bal harbor and Aspen locations in the us, it's very exclusive. oh and deer valley, that one is bonkers.

I think Chicago (and the developers) ends up winning here. St Regis is an ideal flag and keeps the exclusivity that is needed here, even if it somewhat lacks the edginess that some may have been seeking

St Regis sounds official. Sounds posh, sounds historical. Legacy and so on.

It also sounds expensive too. Like here ya go sir, a Blue Moon beer, for $20. That kind of gig.

But I'll say this, a much better name than Willis. Sears tower will always be Sears tower. They need to GTFO with Willis.

I'd gladly stay at the St Regis... not the Willis.

New Opening Date

This is fantastic news to hear!!!

Apologies if this was mentioned in the article...but what's the new opening time frame for the hotel and restaurants?

I ask because when you factor in all of the moving parts with incorporating a new hotel/restaurants of this caliber....

- The interior designers crafting "The Look" of the hotel to match the St Regis brand + the design of the building + feel of the city and neighborhood
- The timeline building those costume luxury pieces
- And the same same for the restaurants.

....when you think about all of this...you realize this is not going to be some quick turnaround.

Is Summer 2022 a crazy time frame to assume final delivery (which might be perfect timing when you factor in the recent climate of the industry)?

^^That's a good question, a lot of it depending on how quickly Covid can be tamed worldwide. Summer 2022 may be the furthest date, but I can see Winter 2021 being a possibility too...also contingent on how far along the hotel build-out is. Residents are supposed to start moving in next month..
