From my understanding, all the investigations are still ongoing.

I finally got a look at this. I wouldn't exactly say it looks great, but it's way better than the goofy looking jersey barriers they had there for so long.

I kind of wish they had gone with something that had a little more architectural flair, though... maybe something like these:

Worst thing about Skyscraper Pages - people posting pictures of other cities and me thinking its updates to projects in Winnipeg.

I guess we're stuck with the plain black ones then?

Haha, yeah, sorry to tease with that picture from Boston.

The Police HQ's bollards are most definitely a drab plain black.

Options available to WPS members at the PSB:
  • bus passes
  • safe walk to vehicle
  • free cab rides home after midnight
  • freedom to carry their weapon to and from work
  • the option to split the cost of a parking spot at the Millennium Library Parkade with another member

Moe is going to being pushing hard for free parking for every member.

I was coming out of WS today and a woman in the elevator was wearing a vest and carrying a nine mill and handcuffs. No uniform. She was coming out of the parking garage but she walked east from WS.

Parking will shortly go through the roof downtown.

As long as the police are protected from those pesky terrorists. They never give up.

Where did the cops park once the civic centre parkade was condemned? Was it free?

Also, I'm not holding my breath, but it's possible those bollards are the base and there will be decorative elements add over/on them once complete. Most decorative bollards are just basic ones with a cosmetic covering.

^ Yeah, that's what I was hoping for... the decorative element to come.

Interesting info about the bollards.

They appear to be heavy steel tubes about a foot in diameter.

When being installed they had a heavy steel beam rigging that was being used.

The bollards go about 4-5 feet below street level.

There is a rebar cage around the base making the bollards interconnect.

The inside of the bollard and the base are then filled with concrete.

Those things are definitely staying in place and going to resist most simple attacks. They likely do not offer any significant protection against bombs but that seems fairly obvious.

They can ride the bus for free too, not that any of them do.

Seems like they may have just ignored the art competition for the bollards, a shame, but at least stainless covers is better than nothing. Funny how they are designed to me US defense specs, not any sort of Canadian standard. Is that overkill? haha

These are bollards we're talking about. Not sure how they can be anything more than what they are. Staninless steel covers should look fine.

Maybe I'm utilitarian. I severely dislike having random painted things like that. The wrought iron looking ones are good. We'll see what the stainless ones look like. I could also see the stainless ones being damaged during snow clearing and such.

I see the stainless ones from boston showed up in the search.

I think we need to be mindful of where we're at. This is Winnipeg. Maintaining any sort of public art pieces or fancy things never happens. I'm shocked the emptyful piece at the library is still functioning and looking great.
