Ah, I misread it. It's Winnipeg Housing Rehabilitation Corp. Looks like they manage a lot of affordable housing (including some MB Housing owned buildings).

I still have my doubts that a 100-unit all-affordable-housing approach is the best one. I would much rather 100 units spread throughout the Exchange than all on one site.

I liked Buzz's idea about moving market square up into the marketlands and using the city-owned property where Market Square currently is to do something more interesting (without the fetters of the land restriction).

OMS packed at lunch, barely anywhere to sit... however the beer gardens were closed. Don't understand why they wouldn't open them at lunch, not only a huge missed revenue opportunity, but all that space is wasted when there's people that were looking to sit.

There is a big difference between what Winnipeg Housing and Manitoba Housing do...Consider this project as an example.

Affordable. Family income of $70k. It will be a different model from typical social housing.

Oooo...they had me at Sir Paul Martin. I'm amazed by that alone.

I would just love to see some monumental change to how Bijou Park/OMS/Marketlands are planned and used. The Cube seems really poorly located now as it blocks off all of OMS from Marketlands. It's even worse during festivals as it's all backstage loading and toilets behind it.
The cube is in a great location, honestly... Not for marketlands, but that's not the cube's fault.

$70k is just fine for this community, or most any community.

Hell, a lot will be single earners, and 70k is more than enough for a manageable life where you don't need to drive to work.

I hope they will be respectful and not be doing demolition while festivals are going on... which is quite often in August.

The City is still getting their shit together. They did that design contest thing. Then immediately went in and started work on changing it, optimizing it, whatever they were doing. Finalizing it. Seemed like the contest really didn't mean much. They chose a partner and are moving forward, so that's good.

Maybe my interpretation is not correct, so please let me know. But yes, demo was awarded to Rakowski IIRC.

Construction Manager should be awarded in a week or so.

I've always maintained that the Exchange District is the gem of Winnipeg, and there is no reason it cannot be as popular as Osborne Village. I hope to see the area around the Exchange start to gentrify. We can build some anmeties, like a Sobeys nearby, and attract some hipsters to the District.

"may you be as popular as Osborne Village" sounds more like a curse these days

I think the hipsters already found the Exchange...it's been cooler than Osborne for quite a while.
