It’s official: Uber Technologies will open an office of at least 3,000 employees in Deep Ellum, and it plans to turn Dallas into its largest hub outside of its San Francisco headquarters, company officials told The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday.
Quote:
Uber will hire or relocate about 400 employees to Dallas by the end of the year, said Chris Miller, senior manager of public policy in Texas. It will move into a tower on the edge of downtown Dallas in July 2020 and then into a taller tower on the same site about two years later.

Uber’s expansion in Dallas is a win for the city after it came up short in the race for Amazon’s second headquarters.

The tech company’s large office could fuel efforts to revitalize Dallas’ urban core and help the city better compete with its northern suburbs, which have attracted numerous corporation expansions, including Toyota North America’s headquarters in Plano.

This is such tremendous news, for in-town Dallas and also for the entire region.

Impressive, but what's going on with Houston? Seems a bit low for only having 7,000 units U/C across the city.

That's the number of apartments expected to be delivered this year. By permits issued, Houston is #2.

I know this will probably be a little bit of nonsense, but every time I check this thread out it brings back great memories of how much my family enjoyed those weekly visits with the Southfork clan of Dallas. What a great T.V. romp that was. I know they tried to bring it back, but it just didn't quite have the casting power like before, especially after Larry Hagman passed.

it's still better than anything that comes out this decade (although game of thrones and house of cards are great shows in their own right) with still great acting.

Amen to that. A lot of promise for Dallas (My favorite Texas city btw).

I hope you guys keep up the pro-growth mindset and pro-business climate. A lot of good things will happen continuing the remarkable trend. While others decline, Texas succeeds.

Three new high-rises will replace vacant office block on Dallas' Turtle Creek
Steve Brown

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...-turtle-creek/

Quote:
Prescott Realty Group has been working for more than two years to redevelop the former Republic Insurance offices at 2727 Turtle Creek Boulevard just north of Dallas' Uptown district.

The more than half-century-old insurance buildings have been vacant for years and are being cleared to make way for three new towers. Offices, condos, a hotel and high-rise apartments will sit on the more than 5-acre site.
Quote:
Called 2727 Turtle Creek, the project includes a 19-story, 284,000-square-foot office tower, a 20-story 250-unit apartment high-rise and a 24-story hotel and condo tower with 200 rooms and 45 residences. There will be about 25,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on the lower floors of the buildings.

I can't believe how much Turtle Creek area has changed over the past 30 years. I remember when https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crescent_(Dallas) was new.

The 283-room JW Marriott hotel will be constructed at 2000 Ross Avenue across the street from the Trammell Crow Center office skyscraper.

The more than $125 million high-rise will be the first JW Marriott Hotel in the Dallas area.

The 15-story luxury hotel will be built on top of a new 10-story parking garage at Ross and Harwood Street. It’s one of the few high-end hotels to be built from the ground up in the Central Business District in decades.

Dallas architect HKS designed the tower, which is scheduled to open in 2022.
