As per the above article it is 70% filled, however from the pics in the article it seems like the shoring is still in the ground. Am I missing something or does it get removed as they go or at the end ?
It would destabilize if you remove it. I assume it will just stay in the ground.

It looks like they are making good progress on filling the hole. Does anyone know where they are taking the dirt from to fill the hole with?

Has anyone taken any photos for those of you who haven't been downtown in a while to see the progress?

The hole looks like it's getting close to full. Equipment inside the borders is visible from street level looking across the top of the lot.

Price slashed from $8.5M to $2M. Lot remediation should be complete next month.

So it is really $2M plus $2M on the property taxes for the remediation cost.

I'm really looking forward to having pedestrian access around that corner again.

That has been known for a while. It's unpaid taxes plus the hole being filled.

Funny, no mention of surface parking lot like every other article about reselling this lot. Wonder if the city was getting complaints that resident don't want a damn parking lot there.

Hope it’s not a parking lot. It would be such a waste after how many years of disappointment.

Given that Merchant and his development partners previously bought a parking lot from the province on Smith St, it's a good guess they want to continue to do parking. If the right project came along I'm sure they would develop it, but their angle is almost certainly get a temp parking lot and hope they can keep it longer.

The Capital Pointe hole/site and Tony Merchant together. Oh well, it couldn't get any worse than it already is, right? Right?

Royalty Developments Ltd.’s $2.2-million offer was accepted at the end of 2019, but the company’s attorney confirmed Monday that it has been withdrawn.

“It has fallen through as a result of Royalty having failed to meet or waive its condition relating to a zoning change to allow parking on the property,” the lawyer, Grant Richards, said in an email to Global News.

..Like Royalty’s offer, Smith Street’s includes a condition that the land be rezoned for parking over the short term. Unlike Royalty’s offer, which had a 60-day limit for the change, Smith Street’s has no timeline.
