It was part of The Vault hair salon.

I see a photo of The St Charles Hotel.. has it been confiscated from Sheister Ken Zaifman yet? is it still salvageable? He has had over a decade toying around waiting for it to become decrepit to demolish for more parking.

Nothing has changed, he's a demolition by neglect owner.

Speaking of demolition by neglect, The Peck building as far as i know is still an Scientology asset. I wonder if anything will ever happen with it?? With all the new residential in the area this building would be prime for that use!

Why the city refuses to act on its own vacant bldg bylaw is beyond me...

If confiscated they could be given to Centure Venture to redevelope like The St. Regis ...

Anyone know where we are with that $7,000,000 “strategic” purchase by the way?

This is really cool, they moved up the window arches on 90 Albert to turn them into doors, without jeopardizing the design intent.

Yah that looks great, that side lack any street presence.

For the front of 90 Albert we moved the left and right jack arches up a couple feet to be turned into entryways. We also rebuilt the middle jack arch and moved the Indiana limestone sill from the left to the middle.

Well I must say it’s interesting they decided to use 2 X 8 (or 2 x 10) side by side instead of more widely used truss joists. Many of the historic buildings in the area were in fact constructed using this technique.

A little birdie at the city told me they are currently putting together the case to seize the St. Charles (shh). It takes a lot of work, pretty much need to put a full legal case together in advance as it will obviously end up in court. It's been especially tough with this one as Zaifman has technically complied with all the orders he's been served.

The demolition by neglect laws would need to be severely upgraded/enhanced for the city to be able to just seize a property at will. It's the same with expropriation rules for (re)development or infrastructure upgrades.

IMO – this is where the feds should step in and put some weight behind the "National Historic Site" tag. Because at this point, I don't have a hot clue what that designation even means.

52 Adelaide has sold. The top floor is an absolutely stunning condo (I've been in it, probably the nicest in Winnipeg) that was sold with the building. The first floor is vacant and would be good for retail/office. Not sure about the second floor.
