With the video of all the rodents at the Avalon, I sure don't feel like going there for a meal.

The folks who restored the Yellowbelly premises on Water street have another historic property in their sites to restore and repurpose. Sounds like awesome plans for Harbour Grace.

Took this pic last week of the new Dairy Queen/Orange Store Gas Station on Kelsey Drive. Apologies for the construction equipment blocking the view but that's beyond my control.

That's another one gone now. I think the only two left in the city are the one on Torbay Road (which looks pretty dead) and the one in the UC at MUN. Are there any others?

I'm not overly surprised - even the one in the UC was often lacking customers when I last attended MUN.

Seems like the Pita places that have opened up in the past ~5 years (Pita Pit (East End), Stuff it (Mount Pearl), and all the burrito/quesadilla restaurants which often serve similar food) are doing very well.

Noticed a crew working at the former Quiznos on Merchant Dr this morning. Anyone know what's going in there?

Could be a Big Bite Pita. I was talking with one of the workers at the Churchill Square location and they said they were planning on opening up a new one in that area soon.

On Big Bite's website it says "Coming soon… Mount Pearl, 160 Old Placentia Road" which is the building with the Dollar Store, Sugar Mamas, and Chatters. They are probably taking the old Extreme Pita spot.

Nautical Nellies has announced that they are permanently closed...again. Not sure what's going on with that place. They just said in a facebook post it is due to "unforeseen circumstances that were out of our control".

Probably mismanagement of revenue like what happens to lots of local bars and restaurants.

This was completely different management, they just opted to keep the old name.

Can't wrap my head around this one, they were always quite packed.

Re: Nautical Nellie's (and other small bars/restaurants).
Too bad to see another "local" close but, to me, the problem seems to be that there are too many small places such as this that must be operating on some thin margins. I did drop into NN's back in the summer for a drink and a meal and it was certainly "underwhelming". The place was full that night (nice warm Friday night) but it isn't hard to fill up a place when there are only 10-12 tables. I could see where you would need double the space to get any economy of scale.
As for the "unforeseen circumstances", the building was for sale before NN's was revived so perhaps this may all be related to change of ownership / new leases etc...we may never know.

Last time I went to the one in the east end it was a pathetic amount of chicken on my pita. Big Bite Pita is so much better.

Looking at the City permits from the Nov 5 meeting. There was a change in occupancy/reno permit listed for 310 Water Street (former Aqua location). Anyone hear of something going there?

It has been under renovation for the past couple of months. There is a new sign in the window, I think it is calling itself "Green Door Restaurant". Not sure about anything more than that. Good to see something new for a change rather than places getting boarded up.

Just walked past and noticed a website advertisement in their window for https://greendoornl.ca/
