I think it's more of who was involved in the design than the execution of the building itself which was somewhat brutalist and had ceilings that were really low apparently.

Not to get off topic - 1) A little brutalism is good, even necessary. 2) No it was fine to work in, I worked in it, ahead of it's time in floor layout.

Last time I looked I thought the total floor count was going to be like 47 floors, which would be a pretty tall tower for that part of Streeterville

Hopefully this means we're one step closer to reconstructing the Division L station.

I posted this in the transit thread, but am reposting it here so others can see:

Unfortunately, it looks like construction for the bypass won't begin until 2019, and construction is expected to take 4-5 years.

Yeah, Rush hospitals new tower is literally programmatically identical to Prentice. 40+ years after the original design of Prentice. Also it was one of the first buildings designed using CAD software.

If only more high-rises took about 9 months to be built, we could cover much of Chicago in 12-15 story buildings
It's been lightning fast, especially compared to the Flats next door!

Especially since there probably wouldn't be a lot of rush hour use of it - when I lived near the Red Line Division stop I almost never took the train - buses were a bit slower, but I was more likely to get on the train and if I got one of the short-run buses that started at North Ave, I'd even get a seat sometimes. The train wasn't viable in the morning rush at Division (at least not for me). And most of the people who would use Division currently are close enough to the Red Line. In 8 years, though, there will be more of Cabrini along Division completed, so then the 4 minutes walking saved vs. the Red Line will matter more for those users who might want to use it during off-hours.
