Thanks guys. So the two office buildings will have a similar amount of floor space. As of October 1.

One tower being 9 storeys, 270,000 sq.ft on the Carlton Inn site.
The other office tower being 19 storeys, 300,000 sq.ft at the north end of the main site, adjacent to Graham Ave.

The third tower being hotel/residential at the south end of the main site. 21 floors of hotel, 6 floors of condos on top.

Ah right. I thought he meant the development no longer has a hotel. I've heard it could be the first to go up.

Between the women's world cup, Grey Cup, expanded convention centre, and apparent success of ALT, it's surprising that either one of the downtown spots or the McPhillips Canadinns hotel haven't started construction. The market appears ripe for expansion.

Is 220 Carlton now part of SHED?

220 Carlton was originally not part of SHED to ensure a hotel would be built and taxes paid on the value of the development. This was required to repay the city's contribution towards the convention centre expansion. It is unclear if the site is now part of SHED and exempt from additional taxation.

If this is now the case, the city is giving up valued taxation for a new building. This opportunity was not offered to anyone else and negotiated after the site was under contract and sold at half its cost.

I hope I'm incorrect, as the city needs these tax dollars to repay the cost of infastructure it is currently building and will be required to construct for this project.

It's a great project, I just hope they pay their share of taxes which benefits everyone.

True North Square, Skycity Centre on the drawing board
Commercial Real Estate By: Murray McNeill

Quote:
Plans for the $400-million True North Square development include two office/retail towers -- one 19 storeys high and the other nine -- and a 27-storey hotel/condominium tower.

Reg: Height of proposed Hotel/Condominium tower @ TN Square. Clarification/Confirmation of tower scope and height.
Surprised but 27F is where we stand today. Great news for downtown.

^ 27 storeys can have the potential of going over 100 metres.

Seems unlikely to me... the only hotel/residential building in town that's over 100m has 38 storeys.

92m is a fair estimate without knowing much more than the floor count.

Looks like test caisson being installed today on the northeast area of the MPI lot. I can upload a photo shortly.

Probably more than one, I saw that they have over 1/2 the parking lot fenced off. You can only get in off Hargrave, the Carlton side is closed.

going to have some impact on parking for the MTS center events over the next few days depending on how long they stay there.

I think Viking posted a picture of this before but I was just there over the weekend so I thought I would post mine. This is the public square outside of American Airlines Centre in Dallas (for a Stars game). Keep in mind the game was under way and it was pouring out which explains the lack of people in the public square. I have been before on a nice day and it is usually packed with fans and bands, games etc. It just shows some possibilities for what TN Square could become. The W Hotel in the picture is about 34 stories so it is relatively close to the 27 storey proposed building for TN Square.

It really is a great atmosphere there...

Looks like it was just a crane moving a steel sleeve. So caisson is more to the southeast end. But yeah, I'll venture a guess there would be more than one going in.

^ So what games did you see in Texas, Biff? Stars, anything else?

I've always wanted to check out a college football game down there, but my timing has always been off.

Saw the Stars & Canucks then drove to Houston for the Texans & Saints. I've seen high school football in Dallas but never a College game in Texas. I have seen a game in Notre Dame though......awesome. My buddy in Dallas has a daughter that attends Alabama so that will likely be on the docket for next year.
