I think that its most important to have sidewalks in all neighborhoods. Good maintained sidewalk that can be riden on by not just bikes, but as well as, skateboard, rollerblades etc.

Really? I see many more bikers here around UTSA than anywhere inside 410. There are also a ton of hill country bikers. Take Babcock North of 1604 sometime. I believe more than half the bicycle shops in all of San Antonio are located near Stone Oak.

Babcock and Stone Oak?

You mean Blanco in the Stone Oak area, right?

That's true, tons of people bike along the norther section of 1604 and even down 181 south towards Floresville. There are some down Broadway as well.
Most of the riders that I've seen around DT though seem to do it for transportation rather than for hobby.

That's what I mean. All biking outside 410 is recreational mostly from what I've observed.

Yes that is true, aside from UTSA students it is mostly for recreation.

No I mean Babcock. That is a very popular cyclist road (it's near the UTSA campus).

I reference Stone Oak in that a search for "bicycle shop" nets a ton of results in/around that area.

... well, Blanco has a much larger bicycle traffic. Babcock has little to none that I've seen outside of 1604, but inside is better (but not up to the levels of Blanco). Chase Hill has the bicycle traffic by UTSA outside of 1604.

Why mention Stone Oak when Stone Oak is 15 miles away?

Frio Street Makeover In The Works?

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/loc...104436069.html

Future to be mapped for Frio Street
By Vianna Davila - San Antonio Express-News
Quote:
Frio Street may not cut through, or even to, the heart of the city.

Yet this inner-city street is buttressed by a significant number of public entities, including the University Health Center Downtown, the downtown campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio and Haven for Hope transitional housing facility.

A few blocks down, on the street's southern end, sits a small residential neighborhood, a funeral home, motels and an abandoned factory.

The West Side Development Corp. is hosting a two-day forum to plan how to improve Frio Street, in conjunction with the city's Planning and Development Services Department and the UTSA School of Architecture.
Lets hope this turns into something good!

It looks like Continental is also starting direct flights from SAT to Cancun.

Take Babcock into the Hill Country and you will need to avoid running over the bikers. The narrow road is very popular for cyclists. Chase Hill has a lot of bikers (and bike lanes) because the entire road is mutli-family housing... mostly student apartments. They travel the 1/2 mile to and from campus.

Stone Oak is only 6 miles from UTSA on 1604. Huebner at 1604 is the border of Stone Oak. You can tell because EVERYTHING is designed in limestone.

In the 'burbs 6 miles is basically next door (except during that 1604 rush hour).
