Jaw dropping tower! I like the lightning. Must be the best proposed tower for Midtown since 1180 peachtree. Atlanta should approve this definately.

holy damnit. this is amazing. i thought the market was at a mild slow down a couple months ago, but with all of these new projects coming up and recent articles i have read, it seems the market is just now starting, even though it really began to "boom" in 2000. damn. boy how i love atlanta.

Wow...that lower right hand night rendering blows me away. A 700 ft shimmering blue/green and brilliant white slender beast...I love it.

The 12th to 17th street cluster, with 12th and Peachtree, 1180, and the proposed Trump/Mandarin/MetLife towers, will have Midtown supplanting Downtown and the premier skyline cluster, if that hasn't already happened.
I believe it already has (Midtown surpassing Downtown).

Matty, Midtown Atlanta is a neighborhood north of Downtown Atlanta.

Midtown:

American Heritage Dictionary

mid·town (mĭd'toun') Pronunciation Key
n. A central portion of a city, between uptown and downtown.

Soooooooooooo, Midtown Atlanta is between Downtown Atlanta and Uptown Atlanta....or as we call it Buckhead. Of course unless you are Mr Dewberry...which in case Uptown is at Pershing Point. Midtown is from North Avenue north till Peachtree @ I-85. The eastern and western boundaries are always a little foggy.

Almost every city has a "midtown".....including NYC. Midtown Manhattan is between 14th St and 59 St. East of the Hudson River and west of the East River. I'm sure you already knew this since your avatar has the transit authority emblem present.

I hope this helped.

Since when has Midtown surpassed Downtown? DT still has quite a few more buildings that are taller than anything in Midtown. Midtowns density isnt up to par with DT yet either but its working on it with all the new buildings going up...but DT isnt lacking there either.

I may have been off on that first statement, what i meant to say was on average the buildings are taller in DT Atlanta. If BofA is included in DT then there would be 4 buildings there over 700 ft compared to Midtowns 1.

I like this design, but a part of me is saddened that Atlanta hasn't received any spires lately. Atlanta's skyline for many years was truely unique in its abundance of spired skyscrapers. Before 1180 and this building, Midtown had an almost complete spired skyline, which created a strange cohesion and identity. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe not, but I thought it was really cool to see nothing but spired, pointed buildings. It had a cool gothic kind of feel to it.

None the less, I like this building. I'll take em' any way they come!

Man, the Proscenium (sp ?) building thats between 1180 and the future Mandarin is going to look even more ridiculous once the Mandarin gets built. The scale on the building is way off for the area. I think the developers underestimated the boom Midtown would see 4-5 years in the future, and so they built way too small. The Proscenium is more on a scale of Colony Square and would look much more appropriate in Buckhead, or Perimeter, or Cumberland.

Maybe at the time it was constructed the market in Midtown was a lot less robust and so they ended up building small scale. But you just know when 1180 was getting built right next to it, the Proscenium people where probably thinking "we could have really unlocked the potential of this site a lot better than what we did", while they stared up at it in envy.

I agree, though Atlanta can add some boxes, I believe it should continue to add spires and lit them up. The spire disease in Atlanta truely distinguishes its skyline from other skylines in the rest of the World.
