Ive got this great Idea but how fast would my computer need to be (Animations)

I'm thinking of making high quality Sketchup animations, with speech, drifting, gun shots, stuff like that.

I just realised that, technically you can make any type of animation on sketchup.

Even a movie.

The problem is, it would take a century to render all the frames........

What type of computer would I need.

I'm talking batch rendering hundreds of frames with a good fps.

If you want to make serious animations you need a render farm and Autodesk Maya.

You can create animations of static things with Sketchup, but you can't make them move over the course of the animation.

And if you want characters that actually resemble living organisms you need Maya.

Sketchup simply cannot do what you want it to. So before you get all that computer equipment, excuse the language, but have an idea what the hell you're doing.

Sorry.

Basiclly, no. You cant. Unless you have pro and only want to do bsic flybys or tours. I made a video of a plane actually flying around but it did nothing more.

I don't understand why it wouldn't work.

I can already picture how it would work in my head.

The point is not about making the animation, the point is about pushing sketchup to the max, I know you can use better software, but I really do think sketchup can do a lot more than you give it credit for.

In terms of resolution, then isn't that limited to the capabilities of the external or internal render engine, which is infinite.

In terms of motion, wouldn't layering make anything possible, and difficult things such as smoke can actually be created through improvisation.

Remember Animation is nothing more than the Illusion of Motion.

I can also "picture in my head" how to have sex with Megab Fox but that doesn't mean it's possible.

Just try Maya. You can give this Sketchup idea everything you have but you WILL fail.

You're trying to create microchips with a knife, so to speak.

If I fail that is alright, it's not like I will be hung for not making a good animation.

The whole point is to give it a shot.

It's not that they won't be good, it's that they won't exist at all. What you are trying to do is impossible.

And also, happy Yom Kippur! I love the Jews, they account for .2% of the world but give us 90% of our days off.

Well technically if one spends a hell of a lot of time taking many, many renders while slightly moving the camera a little bit at a time, you could use a program to slap it together into a short (and I mean SHORT) movie.

It's not that it's impossible. It's just impractical.

It's also not impossible to kill 7 people and get away with it but it will take way more time than it is worth.

Unless you're a psychopath.

Which it seems you are.

So have fun.

No, its very possible, but it would take hundreds upon hundreds of hours. I've made hand-drawn, so applying the same idea, you would need to take hundreds of pics, should come out to around 25-30 fps to make the movements fluid. then you would take all the frames into a program like Flash and do alot of video editing. Assuming you wanted a 10 second clip you would need like 2000 hours and about 300 pics of each object moving.

I'm a psychopath now?

because I said something about Animation?

Are you feeling alright?

Do you even know what a psychopath is, before you start showing off your newly acquired word carelessly.

But how are you planing on doing it? Are you making a animated 2d cartoon or something like an advanced 3d render like a video game?

This thread is going nowhere. Unless anyone wants a suspension then stick to topics.

And this is the wrong forum anyways. More people have more experience in other places.

To be honest I kind of half expected it when I created this thread.

It's funny actually.

How people would get worked up over an idea.

You can delete or lock the thread btw.

It is very possible and you're ALL psychos !!!

One problem is it does not matter how big your pc is, the viewer also needs a fast computer for it to load in a reasonable time.

For this very rough animation,
3 hours modelling.
4 hours setting up cameras and materials.
3 hours per render / x 36 frames
2 hours photo editing
1 hour to assemble in an external animation program.
All up it was done over 2 weeks and i can't say i ever want to do another one.

*click refresh if this animation doesn't play.

If you want to make an animation involving object motion i suggest using the move tool to position your components step by step and just 1 movement per component at a time, repeat process until all movements are complete.
Next zoom out and press ctrl + Z / ctrl + Y to rewind/fast forward the motions.
-> If you want the camera to be moving + have motion in the scene you can move the camera after you do your individual ctrl+Y or Z sequences.

You could probably even just create the whole animation using ctrl+Z or ctrl+Y (Undo/Redo) sequences.
