Please don’t let that be one lane in each direction.

Why not build it to handle 2 lanes?

Am I seeing this wrong? God I hope so.

The elevated section is two lanes in each direction. There is a diagram showing the lane configurations in the link.

And when 20 lanes isn’t enough, they can just widen the upper deck to get the desired 36 lane freeway without affecting ROW.

At least the commuters heading South to Buda/Kyle/San Marcos will have shade on part of their drive home.

Lmfaooo, totally agree with that. Already looking forward to the nice shade and HOPEFULLY faster travel times down south. Coming into downtown though.... might cause even more traffic with all the cars arriving near Lady Bird Lake all at the same time

I took this photo of my cousin on the I-35 frontage road by Elmhurst Drive in the summer of 1959.
That’s the Riverside bridge in the background.

She’s very pretty. Also: this photo is emblazoned in my memory from the few times you’ve posted in before. I associate it heavily with that time period in Austin history w/r/t I-35 construction.

That was before I-35 was constructed between 1st & 19th Street.
It was still East Avenue then with a bunch of traffic lights.
Rush hour lasted from 5pm until 5:20pm when the State employees left work at 5.

And there was no Town Lake yet - Longhorn Dam hadn’t been built yet.

Austin's population in 1959 was like 180,000.
