HK's best year was 2010, when the new 484 m ICC became the world's 4th tallest building. But after that, HK has built not a single supertall. The tallest building completed after the ICC is Victoria Dockside, which is only 265 m.

What happened? Did everyone figure that it would be too difficult to beat the ICC, so they just gave up?
There are a few big skyscraper projects around, such as the new Kwun Tong Town Centre. However, we're seeing more industrial to commercial building redevelopments in Kowloon East, and with so much land there, the need to build very tall has diminished. Over on the Central side, there isn't really a big plot of land available to put up another supertall. Recent demolish and rebuild projects in the core area are a bit shorter given the site size.
