However, the planned demolition is concerning to Historic Savannah Foundation President and CEO Daniel Carey, who said the loss of the building will remove an important part of Savannah’s history while also altering the context of the area. Carey questioned the developer’s description of the project as a “gateway” between the Historic District and the planned Canal District where the city is building a new arena and he called for the owner to creatively incorporate the terminal into the development.
