Claremont is definitely not part of the San Gabriel Valley. There is a huge hill that separate the area between Covina and Pomona. I can see the argument some would consider it part of Pomona Valley, but at the same time it’s right next door to Upland and Montclair which is clearly considered part of the Inland Empire. Actually I don’t believe there are any physical barriers that even seperates Pomona from the cities in the Inland Empire. I used to live in both West Covina, Azusa (San Gabriel Valley), and Upland and Fontana (Inland Empire) and culturally Pomona and Claremont feels more connected to the IE.
