As I understand it, the main lobby is being restored to its original Art Deco appearance, including replacements for its original ceiling murals in lieu of an unfortunate drop-ceiling installed in the 1960's.
Things I would like to see improved, in addition to this renovation: right now, when one takes an elevator ride to the observatory you have to change elevators in a sky lobby that features peeling paint and huge portable fans blowing around hot air. It would be nice if air conditioning was installed, and those gross fans put away, and if that lobby was decently repainted. Hopefully, the lobby renovation is a sign that the owner - Trump, who owns a 99 year lease on it - is finally prepared to treat the building as the milestone in the history of world architecture that it is.
