That is the Market Arcade (1892), which connects the 600 block of Main Street to Washington Street and the former Chippewa Public Market.

Hard to believe, but from the mid-1970s through the late 1990s this building was vacant and boarded up. It wasn't until the late 00s and 2010s that the majority of this section of Main Street was restored and occupied. This was considered an area of Buffalo to avoid by people who lived there in the 70s thru 90s, and nearby Chippewa Street had been the local red-light district until the 1980s. There are now about a dozen active clubs and live theaters on this block of Main.
