MIAMI WAVE WILL HOLD A PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS $400M OBSERVATION WHEEL & HOTEL IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI
Quote:
A meeting is scheduled this week where plans to build a $400 million hotel and observation wheel called the Miami Wave will be presented to the public.
Miami Wave is being proposed to fill the FEC slip in downtown Miami, using a design patented by Miami resident Haskel Mayer, who is pushing the proposal.
Haskel’s MiamiEye Development LLC has hired a lobbyist to advocate for the plan.
If built, an observation wheel would rise 550 feet, with a hotel at the base.
Mayer presented his proposal to the board of a neighborhood association called the Miami Downtown Neighbors Alliance this week. The same association will hold a public meeting on the proposal tomorrow.
Miami Wave is “believed to pass with simple commission majority votes [in] early 2020 since its not on public land but rather suspended in the waters and will not adversely impact the marine ecosystem and is engineered to anticipate rise in sea levels,” the association wrote in a Facebook post.
Mayer will also be creating space for a Cuban exile museum and the African American heritage museum as part of the plan, the association added.
The FEC slip is nine acres, and has been used to dock boats since the 1890s.
