Saint Joseph's $50M answer to Atlanta's affordable housing crisis

In Atlanta’s rapidly gentrifying Old Fourth Ward, a new project could expand health-care services and affordable housing next to MARTA's King Memorial station.

The idea is led by Saint Joseph’s Health System, whose Mercy Care program helps homeless and underserved patients in Atlanta.

The more than $50 million development could include up to 280 affordable housing units for families and senior citizens. In general, low-income housing units in Atlanta are set aside for individuals and families making between $44,650 and $63,750 a year.

The project will also expand the existing Mercy Care headquarters and clinic, which stands at 424 Decatur Street across from the King Memorial station.

As proposed, the entire project covers about four acres. It will be called McAuley Park.
