[QUOTE=ilcapo;8784402]There have been 21 murders in Amsterdam so far this year, six up on the 2018 total, according to the capital’s Parool newspaper. The number of murders in the city has varied between 15 and 30 per year for more than 10 years but one trend is clear – the victims and killers are increasingly likely to be young men, the paper said. Nine of this year’s victims were under the age of 30 and disputes between rival gangs were responsible for the bulk of the deaths, the Parool said.

Not sure if these are numbers for the city (pop 866.000) or metro area. I think its referring to the city area as the numbers last year were quiet low. If the numbers are for the City - it would make Amsterdam one of the highest on the list in Europe of 2019.

------

Stockholm Metro (pop 2.3 mil) 38 confirmed (could be 45).
Stockholm Municipality (pop 972.000): 16
Gothenburg Municipality (pop 575.000) 6
Malmö Municipality (pop 330.000): 9

Total Sweden so far (pop 10 mil): 108 confirmed.
Number of killings with firearms: 41

Total murders in Sweden may be up from last year by a little bit, but the 3 big cities are down.

Thanks for your posts.

Those rates are all quite low by U.S. standards but still quite a bit higher than most people would expect to see in genteel "bicycle monarchies" of northern Europe.
