It wasn't the drinking but just the social aspect.
It's like coffee shops. Before IPhones one would go to a coffee shop or cafe and meet friends or just read the paper and start conversations with new people. Today it's just a zombie house that serves caffeine. Even people who 'meet' there do nothing but look down onto their phones.
IPhones truly allow one to communicate with everyone and talk to no one.
